Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

This event has ended and I recommend you guys head over to the Folding Community Board for any general folding conversation.

Ungh, Murphy's law is kicking me in the pants.

Just built a 3950X / 2080 Super / 64GB and works fine.  Running Ubuntu 19.10.

Problem?  FAH will not install.

sudo ./fahclient_7.5.1_amd64.deb
./fahclient_7.5.1_amd64.deb: 2: Syntax error: newline unexpected

So I try forcing it...

sudo dpkg -i --force-depends fahclient_7.5.1_amd64.deb

Trying from the Ubuntu Software Store simply stops at 33% (double-clicking deb file with exe perms).

If anyone has had this issue and solved it I'd appreciate the info.

Run a WindoZz VM :)

if you look at some of the drop down menus for the graphs you can view different actions, for mine "compute 1" is showing 100%

Loads of positives from this.

1.) Murder that bastard Virus

2.) I no longer need a white noise generator to sleep, due to fans.  Lots of fans.

3.) Heating is no longer an issue.

4.) Saving water on washing clothes, as I'm stark naked sweating my bollocks off.

I feel ya.

23 celcius in my room, meanwhile the whole house is at about 18 (with heaters off)

Swap one of the GPU graphs to Cuda:

If you go to task manger and switch one of the GPU graphs reading to CUDA you will most likely see 100% utilization but yes Task manger sucks at this.

I really hope they can the server running well enough to take advantage of all these new folders. I get very few WUs, so temporarily I'm running my cards at -50% power limit, no point finishing fast just to end up idle and waiting for hours.

Just out of curiosity, last night I checked the project number that was running and it was indeed the/a covid project. Today though, the cause has switched to cancer (again, on "any disease"). My understanding was that "any disease" would default to corona projects for the coming weeks. Did i miss something?

There is no "Covid 19" specific option right now, long technical reason, but they are prioritizing Covid related ones. Just let it do its thing, itll mostly get Covid jobs, but if it doesn't, just let it do what it gets, thats much easier on the servers which already have been, and are about to get WAY more overloaded.

For NVidia cards, is there a "preferred" OC settings?

- I notice that my CARD is only using 40% of it's power

- should I boost Memory or GPU clock or both?

I set up my former streaming rig as a dedicated F@H rig. Not much just a R5-1600 and a GTX 970. Currently I'm folding on the GPU only. So two stupid questions. Question the first, if I put my CPU to work am I putting it at risk/shortening the life span of it or the motherboard? Its being cooled by the Wraith Spire from my R7-2700X in a old HAF case that has tons of ventilation so I'm not worried about temps. Question the second, how badly can I expect it to hit the power bill if I let the CPU go to work? Thanks!

As long as temps are fine, no worry at all! PC's are meant to be ran 100% anyways, how do you think servers stay up and running ;)

That said, make sure temps are good, and if you are overclocked, that info slightly changes. But if its a stable OC, and its not extreme, you will be fine :). The "longevity" hit to the CPU isn't really a concern.

That PC is likely pulling ~350-400 watts of power at full load, but under Folding its likely 350 tops. So, whatever having 3-4 100 watt light bulbs on 24/7 would cost you in your area :)
