Switching between speakers and headphones

Is there a way to have both speakers and headphones plugged in and be able to switch between the two without having to unplug one from the line out and then insert the other.

 

I've always had to disconnect one to use the other then it usually stays that way for some time before I decide to swap and repeat.

This may or may not be possible depending on the sound chip used in your PC. Some only expose a single output for both and it's jack presence that decides what sound comes out from.
