LG B9 4k @120hz?

Exoriya

Hello~ I am searching for a OLED or LED 4k TV for mainly console gaming. I have a PS4 Pro, and do plan on purchasing a PS5 once it releases. However, I do not currently have a 4k tv. I mainly played my PS4 Pro on my 1080p 144hz monitor ( I know, its a waste ) I was planning on purchasing a 4k tv but never got around to it. But with the release of the PS5, I'd like to save up and purchase a future proof TV. So, I headed over to RTINGS and searched for "Best 4k Gaming TV" and best tv on it was the B9 LG OLED. I'm still going to wait for the 2020 models, however there was alot of talk about an update about the tv displaying 4k @120hz. But LG never confirmed it officially? From what I was reading.

So does anyone here have proof, or can confirm that this TV can support 4k @120hz? By using the HMDI 2.1 etc.

Thanks <3.

B9 and C9 both support 4K at 120Hz (and also G-Sync!). Do take note, that is only possible via HDMI 2.1 and currently there are no GPUs and barely any other devices with HDMI 2.1. Definitely future-proof tho :D

EDIT: Right now you can do 1440p @ 120 Hz over HDMI and works fine. HDR is also available. G-Sync can be enabled, if you have RTX2x or GTX16x card.

Thanks for the reply~ I am definitely happy hearing that it does support it. Even G-Sync. But i am more excited over the 4k @120hz. Merely for the PS5 since I did read that it will support 120hz at 4k. I don't plan on putting any PC to it since I have a gaming monitor etc. More just for the next-generation console. xp.

@ for 1,500$ for a 55inch that supports 4k @120hz and OLED, not a bad price at all.

@jj9987 Regarding your "edit" response. So are you saying its only capable for only 120hz at 1440p? or are you just saying over the normal HDMI i can get 120hz with 1440p? & with HDMI 2.1 port  Ican get 120hz @4k?

hdmi 2.0 can't carry enough data for 4k 120 hdmi 2.1 can.

it won't game a 4k 120, the ps4 pro doesn't even have games running 1080p 120 or 140

Is that because the tv can't run it at 4k @ 120hz? or nothing supports it yet?

I'm merely just speaking about the PS5, will the tv run games at 120hz 4k?

no the TV can run it but you do need a device with the newest HDMI which there are 0 out yet. NVIDIAs new cards and likely AMDs will support it.

Alright, thanks! So, I understand that the TV will run it, but yet we need the device to run it. Therefore, as it does say on the PS5 that it will support 4k @120hz. That means the TV will run the PS5 at 4k 120hz if it supports it?

Sorry, i'm not the best at all this tech. xD. I just wanna future-proof if i buy a tv for mainly PS5 onwards.

the PS5 and new xbox will support 4k 120hz.

the PS5 won't have the power for 4k 120 so no game will run at that.

Weird, wonder why it'll support it but not be able to run it. Well, as long as the TV CAN run stuff at 4k @120hz, then i guess i'll be future-proofing nonetheless. Perhaps they'll give an update to the PS5 that'll run close to 120hz or at least more than 60hz if anything.

To you, would you go with B9 or C9?

This. HDMI 2.0 port can't do 4k 120Hz, HDMI 2.1 can. TV has HDMI 2.1 ports, but there is no GPU or console yet which has HDMI 2.1, so currently you can do 1440p at 120 Hz. Once HDMI 2.1 GPUs are out, you can do 4k 120 Hz. TV is capable of 4K 120 Hz.

B9 has slightly inferior panel (worse image quality and brightness), slightly inferior processor (slightly worse upscaling and image processing), might have less software updates.

If the price difference is only 100-200 bucks, you might as well go for C9. Otherwise, B9 is pretty awesome as well, depends how much experience you have had with OLEDs.

Btw, Linus has made videos with both the B9 and C9, so you can also check his experience and recommendations.

Inferior panel? It is essentially the same panel. The B9 has slightly less aggressive ABL (C9 will get slightly brighter), and the C9 has slightly better BFI. IMO it is NEGLIGIBLE and not worth the price hike.

The only REAL difference is the processor.

OP said $1500 for a 55 inch? I'm seeing $1300 at best buy.

Worth buying this TV right now or should we wait for the stuff that LG released earlier this year. They didnt show a new 55" but are TVs likely to drop any time soon?

I ask because i am also looking at both of these at this exact moment.
