I keep lagging when i'm a voice call

So basically i'm here because of my friend we play some online games on steam together he is my teammate on the game brawlhalla but when ever we try to go in a voice call on either discord or steam he starts lagging.We did a ping test while using the game and both on discord and brawlhalla came out as avergage 7 ping so i'm not exaclty sure what it's doing if anyone can help it would be appreciated!!

What is his system specs?  Game requires a potato to run but maybe he has a tomato?

His internet might not be able to handle it. Either that or his computer is really slow and can't handle it.

@John_Trollinski Well his internet is fine but his laptop not the best hes got like a 540 amd card not exactly sure.Can't run cs:go

Its likely his specs are tomato then - Have him check CPU usage while not keyed up in Discord.  Then key up in discord, likely he is pegging out his cores to the max trying to multitask these light tasks (light for a new PC)

Well if its that bad of a system, (and Ive never used XTU), he can try a few things.  Typically with laptops however an overclock isn't sustainable as it will reach thermal limits and downclock itself (unless he has a cool running laptop).  

 

What OS is he running?  Ensure all bloatware is gone, nothing extra running in the background so that the CPU resources are only being utilized by the programs he needs - VOIP and the game.  Make sure he has no browser open with tabs, nothing.  

 

Also, there may be other programs less resource intensive for VOIP.  Im not sure what they may be but that's potentially an option (I would assume Ventrilo would be a lighter software, but I don't know...and its paid).

 

Worse case, he is only allowed to listen and not speak during matches ;)
