Moving from Windows Server to FreeNAS

Hi,

 

I have been using windows' built in sharing feature for my nas (in windows server tho), and im thinking about moving to freenas. The way my HDDs are setup is in a windows spanned drive. and i was wondering if there is an easy way to directly import the spanned drive.

No. FreeNAS uses an entirely different File System. (ZFS)

 

Are the drives ~identical?

If you are just using smb sharing, you're best bet is probably to copy your files to a temporary drive then copy back to freenas.

Its about 5TB worth of data, and I dont have the space on any machine to copy to an intermediary drive.

Then FreeNAS isn't the best solution. With ZFS if you want to form a RAID you'll want disks of identical capacity and RPM.
