Finally upgrading the ageing but venerable HD 7850...

SgtKenzo

Hey guys! SgtKenzo here and finally, after so long, I am upgrading my HIS HD 7850 2GB.

So originally how i ended up with is because I had a PC back in 2010 with -

AMD Phenom II X4 965 (3.4 GHz, 4c/4t)

8GB DDR3 RAM @ 1333MHz

ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB.

Where in 2012 i upgraded the 5770 to the 7850 2GB which was basically a slightly trimmed down 7870. And then last year I got this new pc which is now rocking -

AMD Ryzen 7 2700X

16GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz

AMD HD 7850 2GB

Going to be picking up my new graphics card tomorrow which will be the brand new Sapphire Pulse AMD RX 5600 XT 6GB!

In terms of performance, is this a bigger upgrade than going from the 5770 to the 7850? And will this be better at GPU-accelerated rendering than the 7850?

| CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | RAM - Patriot Viper 32GB DDR4 CL 16 3200MHz RGB RAM | GPU - AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB | Motherboard - MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk |

The HD 7850 is ever so slightly more powerful than a GTX 750 Ti

I assume you will get a Massive jump in performance, around 70 percent

If you go by techpowerup's gpu reviews, the RX 5600 XT (with the updated BIOS) is legitimately about 4.5x more powerful in 1080p performance than the HD 7850. Which makes sense since it has 4.1x the FP32 performance (eg how many TFLOPS). It is a monster jump, complete night and day.

7850 is only about 1.9x more powerful that 5770 in gaming performance at 1900x1200 in techpowerup's benchmark of the 7850. This jump from 7850 to 5600 XT should absolutely dwarf that jump. And especially since you have a really high quality CPU to drive that gpu too.

I think you're going to be blown away by it if you play graphically intense games. 5600 XT will play anything on the market really well at 1080p.
