Has Linus ever actually given a reason why he wears socks and sandals?

I've wondered for a long time, and I was just watching Handy Tech Under $100 ep. 8, when he was about to give three reasons why they're the optimal footwear, but he was rudely interrupted and the topic was dropped.

I'd love to hear his personal reasons to wear them. If anyone knows if he said anything about it publicly, I'd greatly appreciate it if you shared.

Because it's cool, duh.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

Hypnotoad's RAM is dying, his motherboard is acting like the 6-year-old AsRock it is, a couple of SATA ports have just stopped working, but the RGB remains. The RGB always remains. Hypnotoad lives. All glory to the Hypnotoad.

Why do people wear stuff? Usually to protect themselves and for comfort.

As an aside, I do something myself that a lot of people seem to be horrified by: I never wear socks. Literally never.聽 Don't really know why it upsets people, but it sure seems to.

Also, I live in Finland and every single time I see my mum, she nearly has a heart-attack because I traipse around without socks even during the coldest winter.

Im the polar opposite of a foot fetish. Feet are disgusting. Especially when theyre muscle-y and vien-y. The sound they make on hard floors is horrid.聽

Um, just to clarify: I have no foot fetish. I just find socks extremely uncomfortable. You know, Asperger's syndrome and the oversensitive sense of touch.

The point that for some people comfort has a very high priority. I drew the comparison because shorts/tshirts are my socks and sandals, not because I think it's a tough guy thing, because it certainly isn't.

Yeah, because being outside while you go somewhere in the winter when it's 5 degrees with a wind chill of -20 in shorts and a t-shirt is the definition of comfort...

For long periods of time, no. So when I clear the driveway I dress accordingly. But short walks to the car, office, class, etc. are actually quite nice, the cold is refreshing. I personally despise 85+ degree days, especially with humidity, and complain about those similarly to how people complain about the cold. Your definition of comfort is different from mine, which was the entire point of my post.

I'm pretty sure he did on stream. Form what I remember:

The sock/sandal combo ensures that his feet are not too warm and not too cold. The added benefit is that your feet don't sweat as much compared to shoes.聽

That was basically it.聽

I mean, just from a shoe hygiene perspective it is rather gross.聽 Socks provide a layer between you and your shoe that is clean and changed regularly as opposed to having contact with the dirt/sweat/other that builds up in a shoe over time.聽 It also helps prevent blisters and the like but if you never wear socks you likely have heavy callouses in the necessary places anyway.
