I am really surprised during the remodel that all the floors didn't get covered in anti-static gym foam mats to keep the equipment somewhat safe from Linus.

It was epoxied so things bounce a bit better

This last episode gave me flashbacks to vacuum and water testing submersible units,  Try putting the UUT under vacuum and painting all the seams with a thin glue/paint. often if there is a micro leak that will seal it, and considering the nature of what you are working on, I would be very concerned about a microleak in that unit.

Hey Alex was just think you could have really used a dial indicator and a magnetic base for when you were forming those heat pipes in the vise. We use them with a few manual lathes in our shop that don't have a digital read-out.

Heat-pipe lighter test wasn't adequate.

That only showed that heat got to the other end. Nothing on if it had the functional efficiency, or even if it was simply heat travelling through the Cu.

More importantly, that test doesn't test if the return path, be it sintering or ribs, is working... let alone at spec.

Water cooled camera is honestly a logical idea.

And if the small radiator unit doesn't fly, then the camera operator could just carry a bigger one a backpack or the like.

 

The idea of lowering the sensor noise is rather nice to be fair, though it might not be the greatest of improvements, unless you start chilling it.... (There are cooled CCD cameras on the market used in scientific instruments, these are usually capable of getting noise free images of practically unlit rooms. But condensation is likely a big issue since most of these use a stack of peltier coolers to get down to sub freezing temperatures and bellow. Though, could always team up with GN and make an LN2 cooled camera next.)

 

Though, the main improvement is likely the lower noise, since "loud" fans tends to be an annoyance in some shots.

 

I myself on the other hand would be paranoid about leaks...

We need to see more videos like this. Really really like to see well-done hacks even if it's just once in a while (as every other LTT hacks are usually very ghetto - or janky or whatever)
