Just bought EVGA RTX 2060 KO over RX 5600 xt, did i make the right choice?

Hello all, after debating GPUS on here with ya'll i decided to get the RTX 2060

 

Originally i mentioned looking at the RX 5700 XT but then the 5600xt came out and Nvidia dropped the price on the 2060

 

With that said my pc is currently running with an I5 8400 and i have a Dell 1080p 144hz monitor

 

I know that the 5600 xt/ RTX 2060 wont hit that high(144 fps) on more demanding games, i was just looking at upgrading from my rx 570 4gb

 

Did i make the right choice? With the ampere rumors, ill likely upgrade to the 3060 in a year if the performance is there.

 

Ive always been pro nvidia but i liked my sapphire pulse rx 570 that i got for $80 used in early 2019

 

Are the AMD driver issues over blown? I was going to get the sapphire pulse rx 5600xt but i saw the evga 2060 ko came in stock and switched my order today

 

Just wondering if i made the right purchase, and as i said i have no problem upgrading to the 3060 in a year or so when it releases. Just need something to hold me over for now

the 5600 XT edges out the 2060 in gaming performance.

 

Gamers Nexus did highlight some irregular performance in a lot of non gaming tasks that was exceptionally good, but if you're only gaming it won't be relevant.

Yeah from the videos i watched from linus, jayztwocents, bitwit, Paul's hardware, hardware unboxed, they seemed to trade blows 

 

But the driver issues scared me away from the 5700 xt and 5600 xt

 

I really wanted the 5700xt but the driver issues were a deal breaker

 

The 5600xt and the nvidia price drop brought the rtx 2060 back in the fight

 

Im just wondering if i should have gone with the 5600 xt or if the 2060 was the better option at roughly the same price

 

I was down to a Sapphire Pukse Rx 5600 xt for $289 vs the RTX 2060 at $299

 

Went Nvidia because of the supposed driver issues

The driver issues are not as common or pronounced as a lot of Nvidia users would like you to believe. I haven't had any issues with any software or games since I found my stable overclock settings, and set a nice fan curve, at least not since the first 20.X.X driver.

Ive visited the AMD reddit the past couple days and it still seemed to be an issue 

 

I was ready to deal with it and try to fix it myself for the 5700xt, that card is a beast

 

But given i only have a 1080p monitor and the 5600xt/nvidia price drop i saw those cards as a better value

 

Ill also likely upgrade to the 3060 at launch if the performance is good

I still prefer 2060 that's not the KO... 5600XT tho also depends on the model you're looking at.

 

2060 KO's problem is the ultra thick + stacked thermal pad and locked down power limit. I'd rather pay $20 more for a standard 2060.

 

Besides, why compare the 2060 and 5600XT to the 5700? What about the 2060S?

The locked power limit isnt an issue for me as i dont over clock and the thermals, tech of tomorrow did a review of the 2060 ko and it only hit 71c i believe, more than enough cooling for me

 

Im not a hardcore pc guy, i also own a ps4 pro and xbox one x which i mostly game on

 

As far as the RX 5600 XT, i was going Sapphire the entire time

Im not anti AMD, but ive had some bad cooling experiences 

 

Sapphire as a whole and ASUS ROG Strix have given me the best cooling and noise performance

Don't do Strix for the new generation, the cooling sucks on them. It's worse than the blower coolers.

I went with EVGA

 

As far as AMD goes, ill be sticking with Sapphire if i ever buy another amd gpu

ASRock and MSI are really good options as well, they have a 50% longer warranty period than anyone else. (and they don't mind if you do some minor modifications, even if they can't legally tell you that)

I can report that even the dirt cheapest 5700 XT, the RAW II, performs decent when you do some tweaking. 

 

For $370ish it's fucking amazing value.

So many reports of 5000series issues (can be typical of a Newly released arch)

But still.... every forum I go to, RIFE with AMD issues (for this generstion mostly)

The Blackscreening issues have persisted alone....for multiple generations now..

So while it might be great for some, it's an atrocious product for others who have issues and no experience.

 

Esp when I can read about the Blackscreening errors over multiple sets of releases (HD/RX/XT) and generations.(while still "working") according to users who DAMAGE control shitty drivers and products.

 

I know Nvidia isn't perfect, another topic.. another day.

 

AMD 5000 series, can't recommend.

AMD really need to lift their game on supporting their Releases faster....

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. 5600 XT + BIOS update and 2060 are pretty similar in performance and both have 6GB GDDR6, so I don't think it matters too much which you picked. Either will be a pretty good upgrade from a 570.

Maybe on 2060, but you definitely do not want to go MSI on a 5600 XT since they don't use 14Gbps GDDR6 on anything other than the Gaming Z that's going to run $340 and will be the only one with a BIOS update.

Ultimately i wanted the 5700XT but once the 2060 was available for $299 i couldnt pass it up. I really liked the 5700xt but didnt want to deal with some of the issues people were having

 

If the 3060 is a nice step up ill get it when it comes out.

 

I game mostly on console, currently own a ps4 pro and xbox one x which is why i mostly stick to mid range pc hardware.

 

With the xbox series x due out later this year i didnt want to spend over ~$400 on a gpu as ill be upgrading to that as well

The choice between those two cards is tough today. I expect someone to unlock one of these cards to mega good performance. The KO 2060 is a 2080 stripped down and the 5600xt is a stripped down 5700. I'm sure someone will find a way for one (if not both) of those to get massive gains with some trick. 

 

The Vega 56/64 is also an interesting value play. They dropped in price a ton recently but their performance at its best can beat a 2060 or 5600xt and they go for quite a bit less money on the used market.
