NEW AMD BUILD - UPGRADING FORM 6 YR OLD PC

Hello guys! 

 

After my first post regarding a new build, and many people saying I should go team AMD, you guys made my mind.

 

After going trough many posts of wich "RAM & Motherboard" I should get, I put this build together:

 

• AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core (3.6GHz-4.2GHz) 36MB AM4
• Cooler Master MasterBox K500L
• G.Skill Kit 16GB (2 X 8GB) DDR4 3600MHz Trident Z RGB CL18
• MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX
• SSD Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250GB M.2 NVMe
• Corsair RM 650 (2019) 80+ Gold

 

You can change it to other parts that will be a better cost/quality choice.

I like it. But I don't like the looks, the cooling performance and the loudness of that weak Wraith cooler that comes with the 3600. I'd upgrade the cooling.

Also, with a better cooler the 3600 performs exactly the same as an 3600X. The 3600X comes with a better cooler, that's why it's pricier and performs better.

what's your country and budget? what gpu are you going to get? what is the purpose of the pc?

this build doesnt have a GPU. so it wouldnt work in the first place as there is not integrated GPU.

Where is GPU?

 

Samsung EVo is over priced. intel660P, sabrent rocket.

 

550W is enough something like TXM.

Indeed. Do I read it correct? Z97 and I5 4690K? But only at 3.9ghz, why?!?

Hey, this build should cost arround 680€, so the budget should not be more than this. I am in Portugal.

 

The GPU will be my old GPU, a Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (cant purchase a new one by now).

 

Could you elaborate a little more on the PSU? Please.

just get a new GPU then, no point in upgrading the CPU based on your specs and then pick up a second stick of memmory off the used market.

No wonder you can't afford a new gpu when the money is spent elsewhere. But spending it on the gpu would be the most reasonable, since your cpu isn't outdated and can go to 4.5ghz or even more. Your ddr3 1333 sucks, of course.

Hey, thanks for the detailed comments.

 

The GPU is the one in the signature, and so is my current build, but I plan on buying a better one, not just now.

 

Do you think that I wont get any better performance by just building a new PC? Comparing to my old build.

 

Regarding the Motherboard, I can save arround 20€ there, and get the one you sugested.

 

Regarding the RAM, I can get:

G.Skill Kit 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200MHz Aegis CL16, for 74€

It's large enough to use in the next build.  There's no point in saving $10 - $20 on a power supply.  It's money well spent on a component that will last for a decade or more.

Well the purpouse is to get a newer GPU later and not the other way around, but do you think that I wont get any better performance by just building a new PC?

until you get the new gpu, you won't get a big increase in games from the i5 to the r5.

however, once the new gpu comes in, your new 3600 will help much more than the old 4690

You can get used ddr3 very cheap, 1866CL10 at least. It may be at $40 for 16gb/4x4 or 2x8.

I will be playing, CSGO, COD MW(2019) and League of Legends. I am not that into new games unless its a good FPS.

550w is plenty to use in the next build. and the rm650 is not needed at all.

monitor your cpu and gpu usage while playing those games. if gpu is 100% and cpu less than 50%, upgrade gpu first. if the other way around, upgrade cpu first.

I have monitored, CPU is always at 100%. one undred percent of the time, while playing COD MW.

What if they want to upgrade to the top tier CPU and GPU in 3 - 4 years?  What if dual GPUs make a come back? What if components increase in power draw in the next 5 - 6 years?  There is no way to know how much power will be "good enough" in the future. Do whatever you want if you want to save a couple of Euro's go for it.

there are differences, but you are better off saving the money and putting it towards a GPU of sorts if you need that.
