Is it bad to put electrical tape on a graphics card as the glue on the tape could melt etc?

Msuni

It just occured to me as i was doing it. I'm covering a light.

Glue melts? its fine, I have been taping my LEDs for decades now. Worst thing that can happen is some leftover glue residue.

Glue can melt right? The gpu gets hot and could melt it? Or am i being dumb. Lol

Should be fine, just keep it away from important components (keep it on casing only) and make sure if it does melt its not gonna drip on anything important (aka a motherboard or something).

Glue can melt but it’ll just be sticky that’s it, nothing to worry about.

Usually the sticky substance on the tape is not conductive, so even if tape comes off, the dry glue remaining on the card is inert, doesn't affect anything.

It can be partially cleaned using a simple pencil eraser.

You can clean the card more thoroughly with a bit of isopropyl alcohol (on some cotton wool , ear cleaning tips whatever or paper napkins / chemwipes) or sanitary alcohol... acetone (nail polish remover) can also be used but this is a stronger solvent which can also dissolve paints used for printing part numbers on plastics so you may not want to smudge printed stuff on various components on the card.

Just clean it outside the pc and let the solvents evaporate before plugging the card back in the pc.

WHY ARE YOU PUTTING TAPE ON A GPU?

We know the answer cos we gave him this idea before ?

Small led light on gpu which indicates power on the card is annoying for him so he want to cover it.

I already mentioned in my original post. I have an RTX 2080ti and on them they have 2 bright white LEDs that are on all the time even if the pc is off. The only way to turn them off is to switch off your power supply or at the mains. A bunch of people have suggested that i cover it in electrical tape - so i did.
