IS IT possible at all - Freesync and Geforce GTX 970 STRIX

kil4

I know nvidia support only Freesync Series 10 but i want to know.
It is some
hardware
limit or only drivers / firmware?

If its divers it possible i quess make some custom drivers to unlock Freesync for older GPU right?

I have:
- Geforce GTX 970 STRIX DC2OC-4GD5
- iiyama G-MASTER Red Eagle GB2488HSU
- DisplayPort 1.2 Cable with Latches - Certified, 6 ft

It's a hardware issue because the 9 series cards don't have the newer port that 10 series cards do have. That's really the only reason that it can't do freesync. I wanted to try and do it when I still had a 960 but I couldn't for this reason.
