A careers forum?

Would it be possible to get a careers forum going?

 

It could be a good place for anyone trying to get into IT repair / support, networking or software to share tips and resources.

I dont see that happening. Getting into IT is really easy, a working internet connection and a internet browser is all you need. As for tips and resources google also helps quite a bit.

I do like the idea of talking about careers and ideas and information to get into certain fields. My main issue would be that since this is in sense an anonymous forum there is no current way to make sure people are what they say they are and can give accurate information. Anyone on here could in theory say they are a doctor or work directly for Microsoft. But alot of people will give different sides of how to get into the IT field.

 

I recommend seeing what you want to go into in the future 10-20 years. Networking? Security? Managing? From there you can see what schooling they require and what certificates are good starting points. 

 

I recommend for opening the first door get A+ and then go from there into what you enjoy. I myself like networking/Security while I also manage Servers. Tag if you have any questions.

If you're interested in that type of area, you can post in general discussion- or search the forum for other similar posts, there's been plenty.

Majority of the members on here use the forums for self help. There's a fair amount of people that work in industry, but not enough to warrant an entire sub-forum

Considering there are maybe thread every other week, its too little content. Things like VR get more threads than careers.

If your dream is  to be a site reliability engineer at Amazon by age 23, itcareerquestions will tell you to be "realistic" instead of giving you a guide that you could follow and, worst case scenario land at AT&T or some mid-sized firm.

That also allows them to be more honest, besides being dishonest.

Im sure people might be honest but that doesnt correlate to how useful or how true the information is in regards to being a professional in the IT world. My issue would be that since anyone could give their opinion would and that could lead to bad information. Lets use Medical training for example, if someone likes searching up medicines and treatments doesnt mean they are a doctor and can give you a proper assessment. Now that example is pretty out there but lets say X person likes computers but works in sales part time because the person is 16. He/she is telling you to go get Network+ as its essentially the same as getting ccnp, ccie, or ccna. This could be construe as truthful as all 4 talk about networking, but someone with the certs for ccie would be alot more qualified for some network positions where as network+ is very basic. Network+ would be a stepping stone into the door while a ccie, ccnp, ccna is meant for networking jobs that work with Cisco routers and networks. 

 

That is not to say they are trying to be helpful, But to myself branding a section as career forums brings a more professional tone that you cannot control.
