Rx Vega 64 in 2020

I was thinking of buying a high end card and was thinking of a 2070, but then i saw that i can buy a Vega 64 for 200€ and get almost the same performance based on hardware. I looked into it and saw that the  Vega is bad with its software. Now after 2 years since its release, are the drivers been updated to the point its worth to buy it for around 200-250€. Energy consumption isnt a problem because i live in a country where electricity is dirt cheap compared to the US.

Is noise a problem and is it a blower card?

I've not had any recent issues with drivers. Avoid blower style Vega 64's, the bang for buck these cards offer is very very good.

The Vega 64 performance wise is alright... it's a less effective RX 5700 give or take, usually a tad behind which is *fine* for 1080p still... 1440p if you're good at fine tuning settings.

 

Can you specify what model this card is?

It is an Asus Radeon rx vega 64 Rog Strix OC. It is not a blower card. Its open air with 3 cooling fans.

That card did horribly on VRM cooling, so while it cools the core well it doesnt cool the whole thing well. It's not a card I'd recommend, overheat stuff tends to fail

I have a gigabyte Vega 64 OC Edition. I haven’t overclocked it, but I change the thermal paste on it with thermal grizzly kryonaught as the card temps get really really hot. At 1080p I get a constant 180+ average FPS at high settings. And the fans are turned up as well so my average temp is 45-55 C. In my opinion it’s an amazing damn card, depending on which brand you buy it from. I got lucky and my card turned out to be way better than advertised. But i also did some modifications to the card that only cost me an additional $15. If you’re comfortable with changing either the thermal solution with a better one or changing the stock cooler, then that additional $15 shouldn’t matter to you. I even got my Vega 64 brand new for $275 on eBay since it was bid. But definitely worth the money.
