mmmm so not go for 64 gb

Usually will work perfectly fine. Sometimes need to run a bit slower than advertised speed. Very rarely does not work at all.

Decent chance needs a little fiddling with to get it running perfectly smoothly, though.

i will be gaming ie apex, fortnight, bf

plus i will be using Photoshop, illustrator, after effects and more

and also will i need special ram for the amd cpu

3900k

It's better at anything with high threads.  Special ram? Not really, but if you're worried pick something off the motherboard QVL list, otherwise just find a kit of DDR4-3600 with CAS 16 and you'll be set, can just turn on XMP and be done.

Had more issues with my Intel systems than AMD ones.

They typically have more issues with BIOS, RAM compatibility, and longer POST times vs Intel systems.

In my experience this is true, but it is fixable and not enough to warrant dismissing their blatant advantages.

Cue the fanboy rage

More ram sticks is more difficult for the integrated memory controller to handle (this goes for both Intel and amd), it's just more potential for conflict with the preexisting teething issues Ryzen has with bios/ram.

I think that buying that kind of cpu is more than a tad overkill if your main games are Fortnite and Apex....

I9 / 3900x are workcpu's not hobbygaming imo.

Here is also doing some productivity stuff that would likely benefit from the extra threads.  Also newer games are starting to take advantage of those extra cores more and he isn't going to be playing Fortnite and Apex forever.  What about new games coming out 3 years from now for example?

Still I get your reasoning, with current games, the difference between a 3900X and a 3600 is minimal, probably like 5-8% in performance and you can buy 2.5 3600 processors for the price of a 3900x.  It really all comes down to how much you think your going to be relying on those extra cores now and in the future.
