What are the signs of bad psu?

charbel1011

I have the corsair rm850x psu. And lately with my aorus master im having errros with mem86 test. I tried 2 different brands memory and im getting 4 errors everytime with that xmp on and off same thing. So i narrowed it down to the motherboard. But somebody mentioned to me and got me worried that my psu is shorting out my motherboard thats why the ram slots are going bad. But im not really having any other symptoms like sudden shutdown or anything crazy like that.

What are the voltages on 3.3v 5v and 12v lanes? Use HWMonitor, its not super accurate, but it can give you an idea if some voltages are off.

My build is driving me absolutely nuts. The first g skill trident z i got they were 32gb ram 4 sticks.. tested them with mem86 test 4 errors. I bought another memory corsair dominators.  Tested them yesterday because iv been getting boot failure. 4 errors same thing. Turned off xmp and tested again and again 4 errors. Im in the process of rma the cpu which i already did the i9 9900k. And im gonna buy another motherboard because this motherboard the aorus master might have a bad ram slot. So i dont have the pc together now to see the voltages

@charbel1011 I had an issue where i couldn't get my ram to work in dual channel.

The ram was fine, it was memory controller on the CPU.

Try reseating the CPU. Check for any bent pins in the CPU socket as well.

Try running MemTest with only 1 memory stick inserted at a time, testing each of the slots individually.

I have a question if you could answer, tested all pins with a multimeter and the 5v pins are testing at 5.2 the 12v at 12.2 and the 3.3 pins are testing a little over 3.4v, is that normal or within an acceptable amount have no idea ?

3.3v and 5v rails are fairly high, but not critical. 12V rail is totally fine.

Recently had a motherboard fail on me do you think it could be the 3.3 and 5v rails that done it or just the fact it was a second hand mobo combo from eBay ? Just ordered a new board and don't want to kill it over just buying a new psu aswell
