Should I go for a 660, 670, or stick with apu.

Kumart

Hello, I'm trying to build a PC. Now just to clarify this a budget build from pre-owned parts. I have a fm2 plus mother board running an a10 5800 k, including 8gb ram. I want to get a gpu since the apu is not that strong. Games like csgo, overwatch and even maybe Skyrim are tiles in mind. Should I go for a 660 or 670. Right now I don't know what to do.

This is my ideal built here.

PSU, and it's your power supply

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

To be honest, why go for these old cards. Increase your budget with like 50 bucks and get a 1050 Ti. The latter often doesn't even  need additional power input as the power from the PCIe slot is sufficient.

The 6xx line is an 8 year old gen. Getting a GPU with that age is a risk given it might break down.

I was planning to go with this.

EVGA 500 W1, 80+ WHITE 500W, 3 Year Warranty, Power Supply 100-W1-0500-KR, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H33SFJU/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_kK0-Db9XYKDTE

still could blow. Basically if a PSU has less than 5 years warranty, in 99% of times something really bad is in there. I'd only tolerate the Corsair VS with grey label here.

If he gets a proper 350W power supply and goes for a 1050 Ti instead of the 670, that could work too.

try used parts? can be cheaper and more strong!(but always new psu)

I think that if we are talking about a gtx 660 or 670, they are going to be used since they don't sell these new anymore.

off course not a 6xx card, maybe a 970

A 970 would certainly not be bad either. They come at the same price as a 1050 Ti and it does have substantially more performance. The drawback is that it has a lot more power consumption. The 1050 Ti only requires 75W, while the 970 requires 145W. With the 1050 Ti he could scale back on the PSU. More so if he gets a version that doesn't require a power connector.

and at 1080p with a 3gen or 4gen  i5 you will be good without wasting money

He is aiming to do it with the AMD motherboard and cpu he has right now. I don't know how much budget he has freed up for the project, but I'd say getting another motherboard and cpu would definitely put him way over it. Either way, for the games he wants to play he'll get solid performance probably at 1080p high settings with either a 970 or 1050 Ti.

I can only work with that.mother board and apu ? I wouldn't mind 720 p in some games.

This psu is not best definitely but I’ve seen worse (including the one which you put originally in your plan build), I’m using it for nearly a year now and still didn’t had any problems, just don’t be surprised if something may get wrong. BUT DEFINITELY DON’T GET THE ONE WHICH YOU LISTED BEFORE ? if you on tight budget just look as well for some Corsair CX series, few $ more than this evga but more decent definitely.

As for gpu part 660 and 670 are not too bad but you can look for 760 and 770 they cost not much more but they gave you better performance. If you can stretch your budget more consider 9xx series , will give you bigger bust comparing to any other mentioned above.
