What's wrong with a GTX 1070 Ti?

Father of Sofi

I've been upgrading my children's home-built computers and wanted to get them better GPUs than their 1060 and 1050 Ti.

I looked around and despite the all the new latest graphics cards (1660 Ti, RX 5700, the Supers), I really do not understand why people are selling their 1070/1070 Ti and upgrading to the newer models. I recently bought my daughter a 1070 Ti for AU$415 (US$284.45), and consider it a bargain and within 11% the power of a Radeon RX 5700 XT (according to Passmark), which costs ~50% more.

If like most people you aren't a high-end gamer, why wouldn't you stick with the 1070 Ti? Even the 1070 (which can be had for AU$350) is within 20% of the Radeon RX 5700 XT.

Well if you have the money to spend its nice to upgrade..

Myself I usually buy a GPU every other generation.. still using my 1080ti here instead of getting the 2080ti I will wait on the next generation. Saying that the temptation is always there when i see 2080tis going on sale hahaha

A lot of people upgrade just for the sake and thrill of it.

If you're fine adjusting your graphical settings to boost performance and doesn't require ultra's than a GTX 1070 Ti is by all means very adequate still.

Well 5700 XT is more than 11% better tahn that 1070ti. Do not use user benchmark for that.

There are people who want max performance without going to pay over 500 dollars for gpu. They selling 1070 for 200 dollars and paying 200 dollars for 5700 XT.

because many don't upgrade to a similar card like the 5700 or something, they upgrade to high end models like the 2080 super and 2080 ti

or they're just caught up in the hype, that happens too for some

People that are upgrading from 1070ti are likely upgrading to RTX2080 or better.

If you're buying new then it's worth to get the GTX1660 or better if you're interested in using NVENC as the new encoder has much better quality on the same bitrate.

But if you don't care about that then yes, you can get 1070ti for cheap, nothing wrong with that.

because most people are dumb with their money, you dont need the best graphics card for gaming and those people just get the best one with their daddy's money.

That's just generalization and talking down. It all depends on your use case.

Some don't like upgrading and just build/buy a new pc so they want to futereproof. Some just want the best they can afford, even if it doesn't make sense (yet) for their use case. Or some like me just need a faster card to drive their higher resolution.

For example I'm using a rtx2070 to drive a 344x1440 resolution. My old gtx 970 was barely able to drive 2560x1080. And even no my rtx2070 doesn't always achieve the desired 60fps minimum. But I bought the most performance I could in my given budget. And no it's not daddy's money.

There are few, who simply wait until warranty expires, then sell their 1070-1070ti-1080 for roughly the same price, as a new 1660ti-2060-2060su.. :') And lot of people buy used 1070 without warranty, for the same price as 1660ti.

Least, locally. Therefore, I don't understand, why would anyone buy a 1070-1070ti-1080 in my country, where, buying used almost always worse value than a new card..

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

true but still my point is still quite valid for majority of the cases (especially here in LTT). Also pls, even a mid tier card holds up very well in first 3-4 years. You would be paying significantly extra for 1 years of usage if you just gotten the top tier card.

I'm still rocking my 1070 and loving it! I only game at 1080p and don't have one of those fancy monitors with the higher refresh rates so for me a 1070 is perfect and runs everything maxed out. A lot of PC enthusiasts want max performance with max frames.

Intel Core i7 9700F / Cooler Master 212 Evo / GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER / 16 GB G.SKILL RAM @ 2666MHz / GA-B365M-DS3H / EVGA 500w PSU

HP Pavilion Gaming 15 / Ryzen 5 4600H / GeForce GTX 1050 / 8 GB @ 3200MHz

Holds up for what? You can take the 13yo 8800 GTX it will still probably play some games at 720p, low graphics, so what point are you trying to make here?

In addition, people do not pay for 1 year extra usage, but rather to be able to play future games in higher settings and higher refresh rate and when the GPU is not able to do that anymore, they opt for a new high end card.

The two are incomparable market segments.
