down to 2666? cause that'd be super sweet, it cant go any higher anyway

Yup.

Hello everyone, my name is Drew. I was inspired by linus to start a "tech channel" basically just me buying stuff and yapping about it. I Kinda know computers, but certainly nowhere near as much as probably the most novice among you, so allow me to propose a question.

I just got an XPS Tower 8930, i7 9700, z370, 16g ddr4 ram, i slapped my own samsung 970 pro into it rtx 2060 6gb version- single fan-, a 7200 rpm seagate 1TB. Im enjoying the 8 core i7 so far, I 'm not gonna lie, you guys all prolly got i9 9900's overclocked balls to the wall. I don't game much, but as soon as I'm like, not broke, Ill start getting games. Anyway, the question part. This system came with 16 gigs of ddr4 2666 mhz ram sticks. In my infinite wisdom, I just ordered Corsair vengance lpx ddr4 2x8 gig sticks @ 3000mhz. Even though the i7 is supposed to only use it @ 2666, will I have any serious issues? If so I plan to only use the corsairs till i get more corsairs. What do you gentleman think?

P.S. I will not be offended if you call me an idiot.

P.P.s, Anyone familiar with the particular build have any better cooling options for me? The arctic freezer 33 that i odered clearly isn't going to fit.

Thank you i advance for your time.

I wanna point out that sometimes it's not automatic, so double check your ram speed and timing in bios before you boot. it's the easiest thing in the world to slow down the faster stick.

I know its been a while, but I forgot all about this. So it turns out that the dell XPS 8930 bios doesn't allow for the extreme memory profile (XMP) which means that the Corsair  2x8 g sticks I bought, that were overclockable to 3000mhz, can't actually be OC'd in my setup. I was unaware of the SPD speed of RAM is what should be focused on, not the advertised speed. So prior to the Corsair RAM sticks, I already had 16g of 2666mhz RAM so I assumed the Corsair RAM would downclock to the pre-existing 2666. This was not the case. What has happened, to my dismay, is that the XPS bios downclocked all 4 RAM sticks (2x8 gig sticks of factory samsung ram SPD @2666mhz and 2 Corsair LPX Vengence 8 gig sticks SPD@2133mhz OC available to 3000mhz) to  2133MHZ.  For a while, as I was plotting the destruction of Corsair, I put them (corsair sticks) in the box and left them there, but recently I said to hell with it and put them back in my system for 32G's of RAM @ 2133 mhz. I have discovered that, besides an extra second of time it takes when the cpu recalls a program or file in the RAM, there isn't much of a difference at all. Boot time wasn't altered at all, (10.1 seconds with 16G 2666 and 32G 2133mhz ) so I'll just keep them in there untill I can afford 32 gigs of matching 2666 RAM, one day, after I can figure out how to pay my rent.

Let my misfortune serve as a lesson to all the aspirant PC builders out there : Read the serial presence detect of the RAM you're buying because if you cant overclock it and you intend to play mix and match with your system RAM, your computer will explode! Just kidding, but it will downclock to the lowest rated DDR4 speed.

Thank you for all your help on this forum.
