So I'm in the market for an onboard SSD solution. My MB is a Gigabyte B45M DS3H. (https://www.gigabyte.com/au/Motherboard/B450M-DS3H-rev-10#kf

I am currently looking at the Kingston A2000 500gb NVME SSD. My question is simply, will it be compatible with my MB? The description of what M.2 drive is supported is frustratingly worded for me; "* Supports only M.2 SATA SSDs when using an AMD Athlon™ 200-series/ 7th Generation A-series or Athlon™ APU."

Maybe i don't know enough about the technology involved. Or maybe i just cant understand English properly. Maybe a mix of both. Could someone help me understand what will and what wont be compatible with my setup?

The way to read that is a little tricky.  What they are actually saying is:  If you cheap out and put a lower-end CPU in our board, we won't support an NVMe SSD, it'll be limited to only using a SATA SSD instead.

I presume you have something like a Ryzen 2600 in that board?  In that case ignore that *note because it doesn't apply to you.

The important bits:  your board will take an M.2 SSD.  That Kingston NVMe SSD WILL work just fine.  It's all good.

I am running a Ryzen 5 2600 in fact. Its my first ever build paired with an RX570 and I'm very happy with how it turned out.

I'm glad Im not the only one to see this as strange wording. Would you be able to clarify something for me as well? https://www.msy.com.au/kingston-a2000-sa2000m8500g-500gb-nvme-ssd-solid-state-drive - this is the direct listing for what I'm looking at getting. https://www.msy.com.au/wd-green-wds480g2g0b-480gb-m2-ssd-solid-state-drive - then there is this where I notice they have different connectors. Would you be able to explain to me how these differ? Are they simply different FFs? I looked inside my case and my MB seems to fit the one with the single notch, however my MBs manual refers to the ones with two notches.

Notice how the 2nd link (the WD Green) does NOT say NVMe.  It's a cheaper SATA SSD and is using what's called the B+M key for M.2 standard.

Read about that (and get good example images) here: https://www.atpinc.com/blog/what-is-m.2-M-B-BM-key-socket-3

For best speeds, you want the NVMe drive that typically uses the (M) key for M.2.

Thank you very much! You've saved me from second guessing myself and deciding just to not get one at all.
