I have a 1080p laptop that I'm connecting to a 3440x1440p gsync monitor using a mini displayport to displayport cable (HDMI won't run my resolution/framerate). I have an issue where whenever my laptop wakes from sleep or from my keyboard/mouse it outputs at 1080p to my monitor and I have to open the laptop and then immediately close the screen for it to output to my monitors native resolution. Is there a setting or a way to change it so that it always outputs at the correct resolution from the start without having to open and shut the lid?

There might be but if there is it could mess with your laptop.  Laptops often have “special” relationships with their built in screens.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

How do you have the monitor and the built in panel configured? Is the monitor setup as the primary display? If the monitor is the primary display are you still extending to the built in display, or are you disabling the built in display entirely?

My bet is that when he shuts the laptop it disables the display.  It’s not uncommon for there to be a Hardware power switch built into the hinge.  Or at least that’s how it used to be.  Powering down the built in panel would  force the monitor to become the primary display because now there’s only one monitor.  It keeps resetting the built in panel to primary though.  Could just be an OS thing, but it could be deep.  Maybe not so much anymore.

It's actually quite possible that if OP leaves the laptop open it will no longer be an issue.

Do you mean it would eventually adjust itself?  It’s possible I guess.  I’m also assuming the laptop gets disconnected from the monitor and used as a laptop though.  It depends on how it’s innards work and how and whether or not the maker took shortcuts.  If they didn’t it could be done from the monitors panel.  If it only gets used as what is effectively a desktop, absolutely no matter if there’s low level weirdness or not.  My understanding of win10 is poor.
