Stuttering in every game... I've tried everything

I have this stuttering happening in every game. I feel like I've narrowed it down to CPU, motherboard or PSU but I'd like some advice on how to confirm that or other things to try before dropping $500 on replacements...

  1. I swapped out my RX 5700 XT for an RX 480 as well as a GTX 1060 and still had stuttering in both cases
  2. Also tried using another kit of RAM (Corsair Vengeance)
  3. Tried using both of my monitors individually and had stuttering on each one (one is DisplayPort & other is HDMI)
  4. Did a fresh Windows install with the latest BIOS + LAN + audio drivers from Gigabyte, and latest chipset + graphics drivers from AMD
  5. Tried another fresh Windows install on a different SSD
  6. I ran every stress test from OCCT and MemTest64 with no issues
  7. Used ISLC to "Purge Standy list" before running the game
  8. Ran LatencyMon. It sometimes showed red on dxgkrnl.sys, but I also had a lot of stutters with everything green in LatencyMon so don't think that's the issue.
  9. Disabled a bunch of settings...
    • Anti-Lag
    • V-Sync
    • FreeSync
    • Framerate cap (also tried this on at 60 and 144)

Other notes

  • It seems worst when I first start the game and the stutters get more spread out the longer I play

I would highly recommend NOT downloading any chipset or audio/lan drivers unless the default windows ones are specifically not functioning properly.

Usually installing those on top of the ones that windows already has causes more issues.

Okay, I actually was experiencing an internet problem until I installed the LAN driver (intermittent lag spikes) which it fixed. And I only installed the chipset and audio drivers in an attempt to fix the stuttering, and they didn't make it any better or worse.

Could you try running the games with task manager or MSI Afterburner recording in the background? It would be helpful to see what's happening to your system performance when these stutters occur.

  • 3 years later...

I have the same issue, and it seems like I’ve tried literally everything you listed and also cannot find a solution other than replacing parts (already my gpu, nvidia 1060 to now a Radeon 6750xt) and ive also gone through a new set of ram. I know this thread is old but I can’t seem to find a solution anywhere. Lmk if you found anything. Thanks!

@C0yf1shI also am having nearly the exact same problem with my RX 6650 XT Graphics card

i was about to post about it when this came up. were you also having issues with the 1060 graphics card. that might rule out the amd side of it for me.

i was thinking it was the gpu, but im also considering the cpu, because the benchmarks dont use much cpu and they work fine
