Total Cost of new parts: £1513.38 (breakdown below)

My Ryzen 5 build ended up being a bit pricey. Oh well. I guess that's what happens when you buy parts for a PC over a couple months, buying random stuff I find cool on the way. If you want my two cents on any of these parts, reply to this thread.

I like this Chinese SSD. I built it around Halloween, so it'll be a nice reminder. It's metalic gold, it looks better in person (still tacky though). Yes, it's pretty slow.

Observations and Notes about the build, in no particular order:

  • This case ( The CM MC500) was pretty much my only choice, since I wanted a decent case with mesh front, two external bays, and good drive capacity. I wanted cages for four more 3.5" drives, but CM doesn't have stock in their EU store; F*** you coolermaster, you've crushed my hopes and dreams. For some reason, the case came with none of the MB standoffs installed, which I've never seen before; not even in a £20 cheapo matx case.
  • Between finishing this build late October, and now, I've upgraded from a R9 390 to a RX5700. My general thoughts about the new GPU is: "Wow, what I ripp-off" It has the same ammount of stream processors as a RX580, which means it's lower-mid range silicon, but it costs £300. F*** me sideways mate. I would return the GPU if I had the time. The only reason I haven't returned it and bought a used Vega 64 instead, is because it's not currently worth my time. AMD have also made it impossible to overclock the 5700, unless you buy the Powercolor Red Devil and you do dual bios stuff. F*** You AMD, you bunch of c*** Jockeys.
  • Yes, there's a PCIE SATA Card in the slot under the 950. Yes, it's tight af down there. Ohhhh yesss...
  • The Liquid Freezer is complete overkill for the 3600X. At idle it hovers around 45 degrees C with the fans not running. Some air is pushed through the radiator by the fans on the front. The AIO pump has a tiny blower fan. It's cool, I like it. Load temps? Well, I've never gotten it to get past 60 degrees C.
  • The GTX 950 is for NVENC H265 encoding, as well as decorative purposes. It makes videos nice and small so I can store more.
  • Yes, I chose the parts so it can take a Ryzen 9 and a top end GPU if I ever feel like I need it. That's why I have an overkill PSU and CPU cooler, with a mobo that's more expensive than the CPU.
  • The 400mm ARGB bar came with a wierd berg connector, instead of a normal three pin ARGB. So I snipped the berg off, and soldered the three wires to a ARGB male to male adaptor.
  • I Even did some cable management, for the first time ever. I usually can't be tossed to do cable managment for my own PCs, but I wanted to do it properly this time.
  • The Aliexpress GTX950 was a decent buy imo. It was cheaper than anything on eBay, and it's the G1 which has a nice backplate. It was listed as used, but it seems to be in mint condition; though the screws on the fan shroud have rusted, so maybe it was used near the sea? Who knows.
  • At the beginning, I couldn't get the RAM to run at 3600. After the AMD AGESA 1.0.0.4 update, it does now. Yipee!

This Aliexpress 220mm ARGB LED bar is wonderful at £8. The light is nice and uniform, as well as vibrant. Too bad it's not big enough, which is why I bought the 400mm later.

I wanted the cables to look like blood vessels. A PC doesn't have enough internal cables for that effect tbh.

The back is a rat's nest. An organised rat's nest though.

That'll do

I bought a BluRay Drive, because I thought I'd watch so movies and anime, etc. Who knows if I do.

Looks like a great build spec, except the lighting of course

Yeah, I've ended up putting the bars into "spring" mode, so they run left-to-right/right-to-left occasionally. Any mode that has the LEDs bruning constantly was too distracting.

thats why rgb's should be banned ;)

It mildly impresses people when they look at my PC and it's lit like the Vegas Strip. They're useful for that at least.

Yeah, honestly it's a good performer. You can't quite max everything at 1080p 144hz, but you can get decently close to doing that. Although, I'd be a lot less salty if AMD didn't set the max clock speed to 1850mhz, which is the stock max boost clock.
