Upgrade to LGA 1151 (i7-9700K)?

So I have been contemplating making the switch or upgrade rather, to an i7-9700K CPU. The thing is, with my current build, in order to do that I would need to buy a new motherboard and RAM and of course the cpu. (Refer to build specs below) Do you think it's worth spending the money to upgrade from an i7-4790K to the 9700K... I know obviously it is a better cpu but is it worth the money I am gonna have to spend to switch from LGA 1150 to the 1151 Socket? Like is DDR4 really that much better than DDR3? I have a pretty beefy PC already and play everything with no issues but I do feel like my cpu is a bottleneck in certain games. Maybe it's just me though lol Thanks in advance.

Yeah that was another thing I have been thinking about. But I use this PC only for gaming. Does it match up well against the 9700K as far as gaming?

They're very similar in games. One benefit 3700x got is that its newer and more future proof. Future games will benefit from hyperthreaded 8c/16t Ryzen 3700x. Also it is highly likely that Ryzen 4000 series CPUs will work on current X570 motherboards which gives you an upgrade path for the future.

Well I get 85-130fps in pretty much any game right now with max settings. The MAIN reason I really wanted to upgrade was for Cyberpunk 2077 and other games which I think (could be very wrong) would be more CPU heavy because of the open worldness to it. There are times where I notice it kind of have a very short stutter when getting some draw calls from cpu and I think it's just time for an upgrade to a beefier CPU.

That is a great point. I really don't wanna have to upgrade all over again to a new socket or chipset when the newer intel cpus come out and at least with AMD if they do in fact keep the same chipset it would be a much easier upgrade. I hear many games don't benefit from hyperthreading though. I mean it is still good to have in case I wanted to stream or render/edit some videos too.. hmmm

Yeah that's fair, I recommend the R7 3700x though. Better Value and games are being optimized for higher core counts.

I use to be hesitant with pairing AMD with Nvidea components but I know that now a bunch of people do it and have no issues. Btw is that cooler the Ryzen comes with actually acceptable or should I just stick with my NZXT water loop?

Yeah Nvida and AMD work no different than Nivida and Intel. I have an R7 3800x with a GTX 1080 Ti, used to use an R7 1700 with a GTX 1080, never had issues.

Also, definitely stick to water if you have it, just get an AM4 socket adapter from NZXT.

Yep I kept my box that the cooler came in and it has a AM4 socket adapter  This is why I keep all my boxes of components although it's not great when it comes to space management haha

I was looking at the 3700x and noticed that it supports pcie 4.0 on the newer X570 Motherboards... I'm not really that familiar with pcie 4.0. Is it anything I should seriously consider or does it not make a big difference?

PCIe 4.0 just supports more bandwidth, but no GPU's can utilize it, next gen Nvida cards might in the next refresh but possibly not. Not really a useful feature yet for the average consumer. But eventually it will become the standard.

Ok so I've been doing a bunch more research and I came across the i5-9600K After researching this cpu, I found that when the 9600K is overclocked, it potentially can have pretty much the same performance as an i7-9700K WHEN IT COMES TO GAMING. The 9600K is only $205 on Amazon as opposed to 360-380 for the 9700K. My question is, am I crazy here or is it a no brainer to go with the 9600K? Or do I still go with the Ryzen but this basically performs on par with the ryzen 3700x again when it comes to gaming only.

Still an 8c/8t cpu. It's fine for now, but in a few years, the 3700 with its 16 threads will serve you better. Also in a couple of years you'll be able to upgrade to the 4000 series ryzen on the same motherboard.

Damn good point... do you think games will really start to utilize the 16 threads soon? As of now it seems like single cores are still the only ones games really use. But I have heard that the more demanding games and future games will start using more threads for better performance.

there's a youtube channel called tech deals and he recently had a video on 8c/8t vs 8c/16t in gaming. i think he used the 8600k vs 8700k at the same speed. the differences were major, especially in 1% low fps. it makes the gameplay less stuttery. most modern games are capable of multithreading.
