Windows 10 Installed from Media Creation Tool - Drivers Help

Tha Joker

CPU: i7-4790k

Motherboard: Asus-Z97-A

I had Windows 7 on my computer, now I used:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Do Upgrade to Windows 10. Did this also upgrade my drivers? because my Intel Chipset driver is: 10.1.1.7 but the newest Chipset driver on Asus's website is: Version 11.0.5.11892016/08/0297.86 MBytes

MEI: V11.0.5.1189

But it says failed when trying to install. I don't know if I made the right choice instead of just doing a fresh install with all the updated drivers.

I went down the list on the device manager and clicked update driver, some gotten updates and some didn't.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

First of all, you should be doing a clean install, not an upgrade.

Just find your product key using some tool from google if you don't have it around, you'll need it to activate windows 10.

The upgrade causes problems, either immediately or in the future.

Second, you don't need to install any drivers, just go to settings and check for windows updates, that will install everything necessary.

Fresh install might not carry over lan drivers, which makes windows update about as effective as a blind and deaf marksman.

Sure as shit hasnt carried over lan drivers these last two fresh installs I did.

Windows comes its own LAN drivers, which work most of the time.

Me and many other people have never had problems.

If you have some weird motherboard or an unsupported NIC then yeah you need to download your driver using a different PC, put it on a USB drive, then install it from the USB drive so that you can get internet.

Yeah... about that...

"GIGABYTE Exclusive 8118 Gaming LAN" that might be to blame.

I figured I would save myself time installing all my programs and stuff again doing it this way. But I understand what you are saying.

You'll end up having to reinstall windows and all your programs when you start getting BSODs or failing windows updates or system hangs in a few months :/

Better to get it over with now.

Get a head start and use ninite to speed up getting core programs running at least. saves a good maybe like, 10-15 minutes of installing the same things every time.

I'm going to get started now and do a fresh install, thanks everyone :) It was running a little choppy anyway. I figured something went wrong or is off. I never used Windows 10 yet, I just hope this isn't how it normally runs lol.
