I found an IDE SSD

So when I say I thought I've seen everything I really thought I have.  Since 2009/2010, I have built over 850 PC's and worked on thousands of others.  Many XP/Win 2000 systems when I worked for a PC Shop in 2010.  I've used every single Consumer CPU since the Phenom I/Core 2 era and GPU since the 9000 NVidia Series and 4000 AMD Series.  So when I saw this gem today out of a customers PC, I was blown away.  Even my dad who has been working on computers since the 90s didn't believe me.

I've never come across one personally but I was aware they are out in the wild. What machine did it come out of?

I almost bought one for an older computer I later scrapped. I rather regret that honestly. Too late now

Well...   since I assume at that time IDE speed was generally the limit for conventional hard-drives, an SSD would still provide better seek times?

i never knew those existed thats pretty cool. for how cheap ssd's been i wonder if theres even cheap made ones for hobby people that have retro pc's about or not.

I've never seen one of those in the flesh, but I knew some IDE SSDs existed.

 

I wonder what an MFM / RLL / ST-506 interface SSD might have been like....

Any idea how many IDE or MFM hard drives it might take in RAID 0 or whatever, to match the 4K random IOPS of a single Optane or high-end NVMe SSD, at maybe Q128T1 or something?

I'll grant you that but, how many computers using IDE can still be around? There can't be much of a market for it.

Yeah, true the retro market may still is lucrative,  for fun I just googled and found this
