or

Will be using 3900X with 2080 super

I did read this comment, for those saying "just get 16GB":

Quote

When I have 8 tabs of chrome open and playing 1 game (as I alt tab between spawns), I use up to 11-12 gbs of my ram. In short: I wouldn't buy anything less than 32 gb in 2019. Get 3200 mhz speed ram, and the fastest timings you can find for the best price. Done. Anything above 3200mhz will give you marginal advantage unless you go all the way above 4000mhz, which is not worth it for gaming (price wise)

Im wondering if it's worth it long term going 64 GB? Consider that im on a q6600 CPU build with 7GB ram that i've used for 10 years so I plan on keeping my next computer for another 10 years or so.

Whoever wrote that comment is full of shit and probably has a memory leak

get a 2x16 kit for now, and if you find you need more (which you probably won't) you can just throw in another set.

What are the chances that in 8 years 64 GB is needed?

Needed? Doubtful.

I can't tell the future, but if you end up needing more, then just buy some more. If 3 year's time passes and you find yourself needing to double your memory size, that would be an easy upgrade.

I do some heavy photoshop work and only had 16GB for like 7 years. Did just fine. I just upgraded and bought another 2x8 kit recently because I started working with huge PSB files.
