Intel Optane on older hardware for secondary drive?

Hi all, first post on this forum...

 

My PC Specs:

 

4770K

MSI mpower Z97

16 GB Ram

GTX 1070

850 EVO 250 GB(Windows)

WD 1 TB storage

 

I was reading an old post:

 

And turns out i have an Intel Optane (16 GB) from my laptop just sitting around, soooo, i was wondering if i could use it to speed up my WD HDD.

 

I KNOW 7th GEN CPUs OR ABOVE ARE SUPPORTED... MY CPU IS NOT SUPPORTED

It'll require a third party piece of software like PrimoCache to cache data from the HDD to a solid state drive like your Optane drive. Depending on the variety and size of the data that you're wanting to cache, a 16gb drive may or may not be enough, but the software like PrimoCache should permit you to track how full the SSD is and how often the data is turning over.
