Do know reason why it would be more accurate?

Because if you expand it, that is actually VRAM usage and not GPU usage. ?

What is more accurate, MSI Afterburner or Xbox Game Bar Performance Monitor?

I have a 1080ti and need to know which value is true in the screenshot taken.

  • MSI Afterburner says 65% GPU utilization
  • Xbox Game Bar says 20% GPU utilization

Which one is accurate?

Please, do not respond if you are only speculating..we don't want that garbage. We want cold hard facts.

Use task manager to show GPU usage at the same time as showing MSI Afterburner. I wouldn't think either MSI Afterburner or Game Bar are dead accurate but you should see that MSI Afterburner is really close to accurate. Maybe a few percent off and maybe a tad delay of some sort.

MSI Afterburner likely polls GPU utilization from the drivers. The Xbox Game Bar likely uses the same source as Task Manager: the GPU scheduling subsystem in the OS.

Considering the GPU scheduling subsystem is "closer to metal" in the software stack (it's the "DirectX graphics kernel subsystem"), I'd trust that slightly more than the drivers:

Also keep in mind of something, GPU utilization is not how much the GPU is actually being used, e.g., how many shader units are doing something. It's only the percentage of time the GPU was spent doing something. From https://github.com/NVIDIA/gpu-monitoring-tools/issues/12

Quote

"utilization.gpu"
Percent of time over the past sample period during which one or more kernels was executing on the GPU.
The sample period may be between 1 second and 1/6 second depending on the product.

  • 5 years later...

Odd thing for me is wen I run diablo 2 reserected in its standard mode task manager says its using 9% and game bar says 40%. Wen I'm in classic/legacy mode task manager says 15% and game bar says 30%.

I can wait to see what I get wen I try msi afterburner.
