Which REAL LIFE use cases does the 3950x justify its extra investment vs 3900x?

How would I benefit realistically over rendering something a couple minutes faster or other irrelevant stuff?

I mean, any BIG differences? what are we talking about specifically?

Im into video editing, making music (so tons of VSTi, VST effects, samples etc on FL studio or cubase) and gaming..... thats about it. I would like to record 4k gameplay, maybe stream. Let me know if I should bother with 3950x or just go for 3900x.

3900x or 3950x i have to decide, may go for 3900x because i cant see any real use cases for 3950x that arent gimmicky or irrelevant

I'd make the switch to resolve and that will benefit a lot more from the more cores.

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/

its the 2nd best editor out their for windows right now.

the 3900 should be fine for 90% of work.

unless you do 6-8k raw you should be fine with the 12 core

To me, it looks like you don't need a 3950x, or a 3900x.

I bought a 2700, and while using resolve, running 3vm's and a bunch of background tasks I'm hard pressed to keep the CPU stable at 100%. Don't get me wrong, it will spike there for a second or two at a time, but it wont hold 100% constantly.

Maybe a 3900x would be useful if you setup a VM for a Plex server, and another for PiHole or something.

EDIT: CPU usage other then rendering video...

In right programs you could see benefit in video editing, but likely the 3900x would be such a monstrous upgrade over what you have a 3950x isn't worth it.  If editing is a hobby rather then a job i wouldn't worry about it, unless you are willing to wait about a month or two when supply starts equaling demands more reasonably.

At 1200.00$us it's a lot of  dollars. For the CPU.

This is a price i saw,it may not be correct, but i suspect it's very close.

Don't need to spend that much, shopbit.net is receiving about another 7000 examples on 12th and selling at normal prices, and likewise other retailers will continue to receive more and have been but you often don't see them if you aren't watching closely.  Problem with NewEgg and Amazon is its become a fad for people to setup bots in a attempt to cash out reselling them on Ebay due to limited supply, not so much that 3950x aren't being resupplied and sold.

Don't reward ebay resellers, just give it a month or two if you need one and can't find one yourself atm

well i can tell you i just got my 3900x up and running tonight and tested it  had a 6 core  i7 8700 and i testing editing a 4k video just over 3 mins long ... i didnt go nuts i'm still looking how to be a pro but i did add some 3d text and video transitions ... and i like the differences its made for me ... editing and playing everything back playing with things in the timeline is better ... i dont know what your upgrading from ... but with the 3min video i got it exported in 5 min flat not bad .. normally id try to make as little edits  in my videos as possible to try to help and it would normally take about 10 min to export ... everyone's experience may very but i can tell you it helps ... if you want to spend the extra money for the 3950x and you can get you hands on one id say go for it .. going bigger can only help ! ... no will a be a big and night difference i cant answer that .. but the difference may or may not big as big as you might think ... you might see little more smoother timeline scrubbing and play back  and little faster exports

what gpu are you using? .. i use davinci resolve and i've heard and been told and every research that says it loves to use gpu in my experience it barley uses my gpu it manly uses the cpu

maybe if your using something else to edit it might very
