Is my GPU dying or my monitor dying?

the monitor im using for my computer is many years old but until recently it had no real issues. Recently though my computer is taking forever for an image to appear on the screen of the monitor. I move my mouse and can unpause and pause my music with spacebar but nothing will show for like a minute and then the monitor will start doing this like flickering with the backlight and slowly get brighter and brighter until the whole image comes up. the flickering is only in the backlight, there is no colored image or any signal until the monitor has like stabilized and then the color will come up. once the image comes up on the screen i don't really have any issues at all but i just dont know if the problem is my GPU or my monitor. im using dvi to connect them aswell if thats important.

Stop using it until you replace the bad capacitor(s). By using it you're risking a total failure and that might become an expensive repair.

As it stands now, it's a cheap repair. If you're versed with a soldering iron and have some capacitors, you might be able to repair it yourself.

im in the middle of finals, i kind of have to use it. so just risk it? tbh if it dies i will just get a new monitor, this one is really old and has some damage on it from the several owners it has had. thank you though
