Is this build a good or a bad idea?

I know this may be not the right place to ask, but because I'm short on storage I would wile to ask about a video seen in youtube. The question is is this a good idea and are there risks involved?

Is it doable? Yes, you don't have to do it so shoddily, but as long as you leave them enough room to breath (wood is an insulator, it'll cook your drives if you make it tight) it's fine. 

 

Is it a good idea? No. You're just wasting time and effort, exposing your drives to all sorts of mishaps, vibration is probably going to be awful, and there's several better ways to handle storage. I wouldn't risk good HDDs, and running several old, small HDDs just isn't worth it (power, hassle, unreliability, noise).

looks a bit rough. Id rather mod a case than build a crappy looking external wood cage.
