After searching online and reading recommendations here I narrowed it down to 3 high quality (I hope) PSUs series -

  • Corsair RM___x series
  • Seasonic PRIME
  • Seasonic PRIME Ultra

I keep seeing these as the most recommended and I have a few questions (sorry if they're a little dumb)-

  1. For some reason I keep seeing Corsair RM750x and no the other watt variants. Are the 650 and 550 variants have the same build quality? or is it possible that with high watts comes better build quality.
  2. What's the difference between Seasonic PRIME and the Seasonic PRIME Ultra? (Couldn't find anything aside from the fact that the Ultra is a newer series)
  3. Which PSU of the three should I go for?
  4. Should I go for 550 or 650 watt?

Here is my new setup -

Much appreciation !!!

I use RMi which is very similar to RMx and its very good.

The Build Quality is the same, no matter the watt.

In the RMx series, if they're all 80+ gold there should be no difference in build quality. I would not get a 550W for a 2080S and 3900x. I like to air on the side of caution and got a RMx850 for my 3800x and 2080s. I would recommend a 650W minimum.

The RMi and RMx Series stay silent until the PSU reach 50% usage. So you  maybe want keep that in mind for choosing the watt.

You mean you can't find RM650x product or you can't find RM650x reviews?

According to what I saw online and checking watt calculators it seems that 650 is more than enough.
550 Should also be good but like you said I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Thanks for your reply!

No exactly what I meant.
There were multiple articles that mentioned the rm750x as a unit and not as a part of a series if you understand what I'm saying.

For example this article https://www.techradar.com/news/best-pc-power-supply

mentions the rm750x as the best psu all around and if that's the case I'd assume that all other psus from the rmx series are the best in every watt level the rmx is supoprting.

Does that make sense? or did I confuse you?

TechRadar doesn't review power supplies.  That article is useless.  Look for actual PSU reviews like Tom's Hardware, TechPowerUp, etc.
