Hello there, I have been planning this month to sell my current components and replace them with some better ones, but I don't know if my current motherboard handle what I'd like to buy, so, my current setup has a GTX 1060 6GB OC KFA2 and an i5 7400, the motherboard is the MSI H110m pro-d. I want to get an RTX 2060 and an i7 6700k or an i5 9600k, first of all which one do you think will work with the motherboard I've got? And if none work, shall I upgrade to a newer motherboard? If yes, what are you recommending me?

Thank you for reading.

only 6h and 7th gen CPU's (after a BIOS update) will work with this boards. 8th and 9th gen CPU's will not work with this motherboard.

Not that I would recommend a 6700K on a budget board either - as it is really not meant for that sort of purpose.

I would honestly look either into a locked i7 6th gen at most, or probably a new system if you feel like you need for CPU horse-power. Something like a 3600 + B450.

The 2060 has kind of been made irrelevant by the 2060 Super, which can be had for similar prices, but with a lot better performance.

a 2060 Super or 5700 is probably where I would start looking in this day and age. (but only if you feel like you need the extra performance)

In that case you can get an 8th gen or 9th gen CPU.

You could do something like this:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: Intel Core i7-9700 3 GHz 8-Core Processor  ($335.99 @ Best Buy)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 AORUS ELITE ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($171.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $507.98
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Or something like this on the AMD side:

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor  ($309.99 @ Walmart)
Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 GAMING X ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($169.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $479.98
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Entirely depends on your use case, budget, preferences, current case, etc.

Although you should consider - especially on the AMD side - most current CPU platforms prefer fast memory. Not sure what you have right now, but at least over 2666Mhz is recommended for either platform, preferably dual channel.

Alright, will go for the i7 9700 and the aorus, thanks for the help!
