I was about to buy a new GPU, but I am feeling very skeptical about it because NVIDIA has been a monopoly in the GPU market for a while.

The market is just riddled with used GTX 1070-1080's, shops selling 1660's and RTX's and theyre still going for a ridiculous price as used. I am not a fan of buying used stuff because they could've been used in a mining rig and theres possibly no warranty.

If I should buy, leave your recommendation and why should I buy that specific one.

You could also recommend which shop to check out for good prices inside the EU.

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section or I missed some pinned thread.

Then why would you care about the used market anyway?

It was just me saying that I would prefer buying new, but if you have something to change my mind with, go for it.

I dont know if i understood you correctly.

soooo what about not getting Nvidia then

5700(xt) are very compelling and better price/perf than team green.

Also the days of buggy drivers on them are long over :)

AMD's software is really buggy, currently using R9 380 and im not having the best experience with it. Sometimes opening Tenor in Discord makes my GPU crash, AMD ReLive's desktop recording records a green/black screen and doesnt work properly even with the newest drivers that I tried. Sometimes audio doesnt work on video (I dont mean my own voice), their fullscreen recording for fast clips sometimes doesnt work and says that the relive clipping thing is off and only works until you alt tab out and back in.

hm i have zero problems with all of this on my VII and 5700XT

maybe the older card doesn’t work that well with the new software?

Technically this is completely incorrect obviously.

To your actual question

Good time to buy GPUs?

I would have to say absolutely not,  it would be much better to wait for next generation of GPUs,  namely Nvidia 7nm cards as they will perform much better at probably similar prices and generally current gen cards are only stop gaps, meant as quick cash grabs for manufacturers.

We're at the absolute end of current gen cycle,  always the worst possible time to buy a *new* GPU .

*Used* is a different story,  if you find a good deal for current or last gen cards (1080ti gen)  then sure,  why not, these cards are still reasonable powerful and realistically current gen cards aren't that much more future proof either for above outlined reasons.

So tldr: no, absolutely not, unless you find a *really* good deal or are filthy rich (in which case you wouldn't ask this question lol) ;)

Thank you for your reply. Is there articles news regarding the 7nm cards?

I have personally noticed that AMD just tries to fill in the gaps that NVIDIA leaves out because they focus on the high-end cards.

GTX 1660/Ti for me felt like they just rebranded the GTX 1070 and made the price same as 1070's launch price.

Nah, as I told above Navi is an absolute price/perf boss. But yes at the high end team green rules (at hefty prices however). But rumors tell that a high end navi card is in the works. Maybe not for E3 but possibly Gamescom or Computex

This is only true of team green. Super and Ti and what not are trying to get the most perf (and money) out of current gen. That correct. But about AMD idd not say this Navi will be here for some time and has a good place in the market.

Talking about the high end (wich at the moment sadly only consists of the green boooiz) you're absolutely right.
