8K Yule Log Fireplace with Crackling Fire Sounds - 8 Hours

JonoT

Linus has mentioned a few times in the past when youtube didn't have timeline preview and his videos would have 5 minutes of nothing at the end, people would sit throught the whole 5 minutes of nothingness.

This video feels like it was inspired by that.

What's it running like for everyone else?

Mine runs it stable with around 20% CPU load (4.5GHz) and the video decode on the GPU is about 50% with it bouncing between 1500MHz-1700MHz on the GPU core. Temps on the CPU package bounce between 40°C-50°C and the GPU stays at about 40°C.

Can someone explain to me what is causing this? Both Floatplane and Youtube versions.

image.png.bb81478adc784e1ae7bd3e07a14b4681.png

(2hr 20min for doggo)

The effect is most noticeable on the dog but it's also noticeable on dark areas like the tree to the side, the back of the fireplace in the centre of frame, and in the dark patch in the top left. Also looking at James there's a lot of detail lost in his dark clothing, hair, and beard.

Disabled hardware acceleration and let the CPU do all the work. GPU was about 50% usage with hardware acceleration on.

Surprisingly My laptop seems to handle 8K with no issues. No dropped frames and the fans barely kicked in. After about 5 minutes the the CPU was at 65c and the GPU only 55c!

The GPU usage was bouncing around 70% with an RTX 2060 (mobile), but the meme lord shone down on me at the time of screenshot!

I'm also surprised my 'fibre' internet connection could handle it, I was expecting to have to switch to 4G but it's only 40mbps.

I can't wait for the Floatplane version, I'm hoping for at least 100mbps to make use of my unlimited mobile data!

My poor laptop!

Jumped straight to 97c when I disabled hardware acceleration! Surprised it held at 3.7ghz though!

Only dropped about 5% of frames, which I honestly think isn't that bad for a 6 core laptop!

On the off chance that anyone cares, my 2009 8 core Mac Pro with an 'upgraded' Radeon HD7850 most definitely cannot handle 8K.

It dropped about 70% of frames

(running in Opera GX with RAM limiter turned on and 100+ tabs open but cleared due to turning on and off 1GB RAM hard limit)

Alright my system (I5 2500 + GTX 1050 for more detail check my profile) was idling at ~10% CPU usage on all cores and 1-3% GPU usage.

At normal speed my system jumped up to a CPU usage of 30% on all cores and the GPU was at ~20% usage at 2x speed my CPU jumped to ~50% on all cores and GPU usage of ~40%.

@GDRRiley Well ofc. There needs to be a reason for floatplane. Can´t imagine anything else then exclusives bringing a lot of people there. Looking at my techchannels on YT i would have to pay over 30$ per month there.

Just had a secret santa event and put the yule log video on. No one realized who the people on the video are as they don't watch the channel. One family member was intrigued though:
