Whats the cheapest high TB hard drive ???

RoryRB

So basically i run a small gaming channel on youtube and stream sometimes, but all in 1440p 60fps, so the file sizes are huge and in one session i could get 2+ hours worth of footage, so i need a hard drive(s) with a good price:storage ratio. If it would be beneficial to run multiple drives in raid then let me know, i just need a cheap drive to put footage on and store the finished videos, as my 500gb Samsung 970 evo plus is running low on space, and speed is not a priority.

CPU: Amd Ryzen 3400g

COOLER: Be Quite Dark Rock Pro 4

MOBO: Aorus x570 elite

RAM: 2x8 Corsair Vengence 3200 MHz

SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500GB

GPU: Powercolour Red Devil RX570 4GB

PSU: Corsair RM750x 80+ Gold

CASE: Coolermaster H500p Mesh

This sounds like a job for the pcpartpicker spiderbots.  Plug in your requirements in filters sort by “cost per gb” and there you go.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

To me 6-8tTB seems to be the cheapest especially if you look at external hdds, and if you need them to be internal then you can remove the case and all the extra stuff from the hdd.

This is what I did to get a shortlist when I needed some bulk storage recently. I'd still like some performance so I'd try to lean towards 7200rpm drives and avoid the slower ones. This usually means looking at the Toshiba NAS drives. They tend to be cost competitive although Seagate can be slightly cheaper, at least in my region.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

I wouldn't go for a standard HDD for home use, I'd look at the surveillance drives, like the WD Purple or the Seagate Skyhawk Surveillance... which are a little more expensive per GB, but are designed for this exact purpose of recording video a lot.

here in the UK a 2TB is around £40-60, a 3TB £65-85 and 4TB £90-110

System 1: Gigabyte Aorus B450 Pro, Ryzen 5 2600X, 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3200mhz, Sapphire 5700XT, 250GB NVME WD Black, 2x Crucial MX5001TB, 2x Seagate 3TB, H115i AIO, Sharkoon BW9000 case with corsair ML fans, EVGA G2 Gold 650W Modular PSU, liteon bluray/dvd/rw.. NO RGB aside from MB and AIO pump. Triple 27" Monitor setup (1x 144hz, 2x 75hz, all freesync/freesync 2)

System 2: Asus M5 MB, AMD FX8350, 16GB DDR3, Sapphire RX580, 30TB of storage, 250GB SSD, Silverstone HTPC chassis, Corsair 550W Modular PSU, Noctua cooler, liteon bluray/dvd/rw, 4K HDR display (Samsung TV)

System 3 & 4: nVidia shield TV (2017 & 2019) Pro with extra 128GB samsung flash drives.
