Cablemod Pro RT kit - shirkwrapped PCI-e cables

I picked up a set of Pro RT-series cables from amazon (model cm-prts-fkit-nkkw-r) to go with Seasonic Prime Ultra Platinum 1000w.

What puzzled me is that 8-pin PCIe cables fuse with shirkwrap from 8 cables down to 6 at the PSU plug, essentially making it a 6-pin connector to the power supply. Also, the 24-pin mobo connector has 1 pin missing.

Is this normal? RT series cables suppose be compatible with my PSU, but I do not want to plug those 8 pin PICe cables into my 2080 Ti.

Any ideas?

Thanks

24 pin connector has a hole for -5v, which was deprecated years ago (like 10+ years ago I think)... deprecated means power supplies no longer have to supply that voltage and motherboards don't use it for anything.

Some still have a wire for the looks but it's not bad if there isn't one.

PCI-e 8 pin connectors have 3 pairs of 12v+ground wires, the extra 2 pins in the 8 pin are ground. So, it's no problem if there's only 6 wires going to psu.

Our newer PSUs (launched after 2013) are now all compatible with the same cable set, which means you can easily swap out your older PSU without reorganizing the cables.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of Seasonic PSU Series that share the same cable set:
