Hi, I've been having some issues with Windows 10 lately. My RAM usage is very high and I cannot find the source. I've used multiple programs and the most notable thing about it is that task manager shows the PC using 5GB of RAM, while my user (the only user) is only using 1.5GB of RAM. I know similar topics have been posted on this, but they do not help. I've tried Microsoft Support as well, but they didn't even try to analyze the problem, they only sent me links to other forums.

My RAM is also configured to run at 3066MHz, however it's only running at 1533MHz.

This problem only exists in Windows 10. In Ubuntu, my RAM is fine.

Really?

Similar topics explains that Windows uses memory if it's possible. For improve system speed and many other things. Don't worry - if any of your programs will need more ram, Windows release this memory for you. You bought memory not for good looking, but for use. So be happy that your system uses it.

But if "help" means "do something, I want to have always free memory", then you should just disable all services and functions that can use your memory - like SysMain, prefetch, Windows Update, Windows Defender, search indexer etc.

RAM is DDR (Double Data Rate) So 3066Mt/s this is because Ram ticks at the top and falling edge of the clock.

Your actual ram speed is 1533Mhz which is correct.

Also windows will utilize memory in a effecient manner to predict user usage and to make programs load faster by allowing them to stay in RAM.

I have 32GB in my system with a total usage of 19.4GB used. I have about a dozen chrome tabs up, a game emulator, a Pi-hole VM running, plex server, security cameras, also using 2GB as Layer 1 Cache to speed up my mechanical drives. Unless your running out of ram I wouldn't worry about it.

Well, the thing is, that windows didn't use this much memory at first. So you are saying that now that it's using more, it should be faster. That is not true, it's gotten much slower. There has to be some sort of memory leak.

The increase memory usage is due to windows prefetcher which takes user usage over time and ties to load programs into memory to allow them to launch faster based on prior usage.

Windows has to load so much more junk data all the time as time goes on using a PC.

To which said PC might in fact be slower due to other operations of instructions being added (swapping data between drives and all that subsystem registry stuff that NEVER EVER gets 100% cleaned by various application installs/uninstalls) Programming was done so lazy in some apps,.. the junk left behind even by big companies is astounding.

But Windows can see it....because its not gone, things are being loaded/scanned/seen and checked even if not needed or used..

If mental about it....Reset Windows 10 every few months if you want that 'fresh feel' with lower usages across the board.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
