So I'm building a PC for Christmas and I've read a lot of the reviews on the card in question (read title) and loads of people are saying it lasts maybe weeks if they're lucky?

Has anybody had any bad experiences with it recently or if they've fixed it? Really dont want to drop $500 on a brand new card for it to brick itself after a few hours of gaming.

My advice is that if there are a ton of reviews/comments saying their are issues is to just pass on this card.  This is especially the case as their are probably a dozen variants available within $50 of the price of this card that aren't getting bad reviews.

those reviews are within a few months of launch right? Because the GDDR6 non Super cards of Turing architecture all had this short lived memory problem. 1660 and 1650 are the only ones without problem because they use GDDR5 (even 1660Ti suffered back then). Today they should all be fine as far as durabiliy goes, though 2070 pricing are usually not competitive with 2060 Super

Yeah, the prices on the non-super versions haven't came down enough to justify purchasing them over the Super model.  Generally speaking a 2060 Super is a better value than buying a 2070 while the 2070 Super is a better value than buying the 2080.

Yeah, thanks for the info. Pricing isnt really a factor for me. I was thinking it was just a launch issue, as most things are. Same thing with games.

I've gotten my RTX 2070 from ASUS (the Dual Advanced model, not the Strix mind you) in January, with Micron memory, and it's been running fine ever since, no artifacting or any sort of problems. It's really just luck of the draw, but memory problems used to happen on any brand Turing card (even FE cards), not just ASUS, but to my knowledge it's been "fixed" in later batches of the cards (most people were talking about their GPUs dying within the first couple of months of release).

But anyway, what I would rather suggest is taking a look at the 2060 Super, as it will offer the same performance of the 2070, but it should be cheaper, or the 2070 Super, as it will offer more performance than the 2070, and should be at about the same price.

Before the Super cards existed. Asus Strix 2070 has 3 models, stock clocks, advanced, and overclock. The ones that had the worse rating and problem was the overclock model. Advanced on the other hand, is still overclocked, but not by much, and that was one of the better and stable cards out there.
