Please need help. Can’t get past “Reboot and Select proper Boot device...”

Hello,

I really need someone’s help on this issue. My PC gets past the post screen, but it gets to “Reboot and Select proper Boot device...” and I can’t get past it. I can access my BIOS without a problem.

Here are my specs:

  • AMD RYZEN 9 3900X
  • MSI X570 GAMING PRO CARBON
  • MSI RTX2080 GAMING X TRIO 8GB
  • GSKILL 16GB 2X8 D4 3000 TRIZ RGB
  • SAMSUNG E 500GB 970EVO+NVME M.2 SSD
  • EVGA SUPRNOVA 650W G3 MOD PSU
  • Phanteks - Eclipse P350X (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
  • KRAKEN X52
  • 3 120mm AER RGB FANS AT THE TOP
  • 4 300mm NZXT STRIPS (2 INSIDE, 2 OUTSIDE)
  • NZXT HUE 2

I have also made my Samsung SSD, which I have had in the system for about a year, has been my main Boot the top priority in my BIOS and have rebooted my PC multiple times.

I have had this computer for about a year now and have had no problem with it.

I got an Inland 2Tb SSD over the weekend and applied it to the bottom M.2 slot, replaced my GPU and turned it on and started getting this boot problem.

I also took the Inland SSD back out and will still get the same boot problem with just the top M.2 SSD in.

Also, two days ago, I got a new PC case (NZXT H510 Elite) as a gift from my girlfriend. The case sucked and I am going to return it. It was a pain to get the X52 Kraken in with the 140mm fans and my GPU was to big and had a wonderful time getting it in. The kill shot was when I got all that settled, I went to connect everything and the 2nd to the last cord was a broken UBS 3.0 connector, the blue tipped one, and when I pushed it in I heard a crack and the whole pin guard to my MoBo came out. None of the prongs to it were damaged. Just the guard got pulled out.

Now I don’t think that is the issue with the Boot issue but I’m not sure and just wanted to add it because I switched cases too and took everything apart.

I will upload videos soon showing the boot problems and my SSDs showing up in my BIOS.

Please if anyone has advice and can help, I would be more then happy to buy you some coffee and or treats or something nice.

I just really want my PC back and working.

Your PC is trying to boot from wrong HDD/SSD. Go to BIOS and select the correct device to boot from.

I went to BIOS and made my Samsung 500GB, which I have had for a year in the current system, my top priority for Boot in two different spots.

this is why I’m confused.

Make sure secure boot isn't on. Depending on how the ssd was imaged secure boot may or may not work. If that still does not work see if you have a legacy support option, again which is also dependent on how the system was imaged.

Well, obviously, I cannot tell you what has changed in your BIOS-settings, but that error-message you are seeing is because your BIOS isn't booting up from the right device. You could always try resetting BIOS-settings to default and seeing if that gets them to their original state, but otherwise you'll need to figure out how to get it to boot using UEFI from the correct SSD. I don't have your mobo, I have no idea what settings it's got, but on my mobo, the BIOS recognizes a UEFI - bootloader and that's what I need to boot to.

I will look into secure boot for MSI X570 Gaming Pro Carbon. Thank you.

I did just update my BIOS for the first time since the boards came out in July I believe.

I will also look for the legacy option too. Thanks!

I had this similar issue.

See if you can manually boot from the M.2 drive.

My motherboard ties the M.2 ports with the SATA ports and caused an issue where it would boot to the SSD instead of my M.2 when I was moving around my hard drives to adding a new drive and pulling some in and out to figure out which drive was what.

If you can manually boot to your M.2 drive, you're solid and just need to remove the System Partition in Disk Management so it won't auto boot to that drive by default. (Make sure you delete the one on the right drive!)

Hope that helps because it sure gave me grief for an hour or two even though I had zero issues when I was moving them until I configured them exactly the way I wanted to and rebooted to that issue.
