Question about a gtx 970 cable

Hi I got an evga gtx 970 from a friend for my first build but when I started connecting my psu I realized I didn't have the correct cable for it, my question is do I need its dual 6 pin to 8 pin cable and if I do where do I get it?

You need to plug all the cables in the gpu.

Since your psu does not have a right cable, you need to get better psu. Can u tell me what exact psu you have?

And if you have 6 pin and 8 pin connector on gpu, you need one 6pin (or 6+2pin) and 8pin (or 6+2)pin

What PSU model do you have?

 

Yes, in effect 2x6 PCIe = 1x8 so you can get a cheapo cable off Newegg or something, but I could have sworn the 970 came with one so your friend might have a kicking around somewhere

My psu is a gamemax gm600 600w psu. 

And yeah my friend told me it originally came with a dual 6 pin to 8 pin cable but he lost it.

OK so I just realized I have 2 6+2 pin to 8 pin cables that came with my psu and I managed to connected them to my psu and gpu, now the question is will I fry my gpu?

Just looked up the specs for your PSU, only 20 amps on the 12v rail, huge ouchie. Can you corroborate with the label of the PSU?
