First some background info, I'm looking to build a deskmini barebones system with a Ryzen 5 3400g apu.  I know I need as much fast ram as possible for the APUs to make the machine run better, but I was wondering how much of a performance difference there actually is.  (I have to use laptop ram for the small form factor so it gets expensive fast.)

I was originally looking at 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) for $65 US since it seemed like the best price to performance option.

After finding a few cybermonday deals I'm might have found some better options, but I have questions.

Would jumping up to a slower 32 gig set up be better for cpu performance?  I'm thinking painting big files in photoshop, and less about games.

There is a 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) for $95 that seems reasonably priced.

Also are the "first from asia" sellers on newegg trustworthy?  This 32gb kit of DDR4 3000 seems too good to be true since its $100 off.  If it works this is clearly the best option, but I dont want to throw away $100 on something that I cant send back.

You don't need 32GB RAM for gaming, and i doubt you'll even benefit from 16GB with R5 3400G (assuming you don't have dGPU). For general usage only, 8GB of RAM would be enough but you actually don't need R5 3400G either then, get R5 2200G\2400G\3200G, whatever is cheaper.

It's more of a small form factor Photoshop machine than a gaming set up.  I'm only building this to get 16gigs or ram and a terabyte of storage, with a small form factor on a budget.  Think jury rigged iPad pro for less than $700.  I only have the extra $40 for ram because of other black Friday/cyber Monday deals.

Ok, go with 16GB then, i'd recommend some nVidia GPU like GTX1650 Super for Photoshop too but it'll be just fine without it and it's out of budget anyway.

Buying 32gb of ram for a system that can last 7-8 years just swapping the cpu in a few years is never wrong.

If you find a fast (3200MHz Cl16 or better) kit, go for it. But for Ryzen is never a good option to cheap on ram speeds. Every generations benefits more and more on fast ram with tight timings.

No, he doesnt need 32gb of ram to use photoshop or gaming. 16gb with faster clock speed is better.

Wrong, 3rd gen isnt as dependent as the 1st one.

That's only half true.  I don't need 32gb of ram for photoshop, but I can easily use it.  I regularly get photoshop alone to use between 15 and 20 gb of ram on my primary painting rig.  A typical painting I'm working on will use 12-15 and if I have another document open (say to compare an earlier save of the painting, or to use as reference) my ram usage goes over 16.  Its more an issue of the cpu processing speed taking a hit if I reduce the speed of the ram, since I regularly max out photoshops cpu usage too.

No, you need 3000MHz at least.  It does matter. And you could still upgrade to two more sticks later although you probably won't really need 32GB

No idea about these sellers sorry
