I have one problem. 2 Months ago I think, I don't know. I posted about my hdd's weird noises, people said to check smart status, it was fine, but when I sent the noises, everyone said to change that hdd asap. Well it was fine, no strange things going around, just noises, but until now. My pc going pretty weird, it's not as fast as before even if it's clean windows. And my pc just freezes and I have to restart via button after long hours. Edit: games started to stutter too, my cpu temp when playing are fine like 56c, I don't have any malware, avast does not detect anything.

Have you tried defragging? If it's a hard drive it may help sort it's data out and correct it. If not this can be signs that the HDD is dying. You said you were warned about the noises but continued to use the drive? I recommend backing up your data onto a different drive and get rid of this drive. The header could be jumping around making weird clicking or grinding like noises.

Using my paycheck on computer parts and alcohol and since this is a tech form I'll help with computer stuff I guess

Well after listening to the noise it does sound like the header of the HDD is grinding if not skipping (not sure about the skipping as it could just be something else like cloth touching the mic). If you're absolutely sure that the noise is coming from this drive and you are also having all of these issues even with a fresh install I'd have to say it has to be the HDD.

If you need to find out you can load windows onto a thumb drive or some sort of removable media without a new storage device. This will greatly reduce read/write times but can give you a better idea if the hard drive is actually dying by looking for other signs you've seen on a different storage device. You can also buy cheap used hard drives (depending on country and area) off different websites. What's 5 bucks for some 200GB hard drive just to make sure something else in your computer isn't dying.

Yeah I don't think changing the PSU would affect the HDD that much. I can almost 90% certainty that the HDD is just bad. It could be something else that's just being wonky that I really wouldn't be able to deduce through a forum alone. Best bet is switching HDDs. Sorry but no new news to be found haha

  • 2 weeks later...

The SMART Data can't predict every drive failure, and drives do fail without throwing up any SMART symptoms. I had a Samsung drive suddenly drop to abysmal performance with no alerts in HDSentinel (Program to monitor and test drives). Playing it safe, I dumped the contents.

Less than 24h later the drive was dead. Though I think it made 8 years of life, so not too shabby.
