Hi, I just upgraded to an rtx 2080 super and i'm getting 100-150 fps in csgo and 50 fps in far cry 4 at 1440p.

I do get good fps in control and battlefield V even with ray tracing, which makes me think it might be a cpu issue. any ideas?

specs

OS: windows 10 home

ram: corsair vengeance 3200Mhz 4x8GB

cpu: ryzen 7 2700x watercooled

gpu: rtx 2080 super

storage: bunch of ssds

motherboard: x470 gaming something

monitor (main): 1440p 144hz

monitor 2: 4k 60hz

monitor 3: 1080p supports 144hz but can only choose 60hz. something with the cable i think.

temps: gpu never over 70c, cpu never over 60c.

have tried turning gpu power to performance, system power plan is performance.

I just can't figure out what's stalling. I understand the cpu got many cores and threads, but none of the threads are maxed out.

I included some gpu and cpu usage below while running far cry 4

Can you show voltage and powers and clocks for the gpu as well please.

1. Snip that please.

2. It most likely in utilization limit anyway judging by 50% usage.

It needs to be connected through DisplayPort.

Well, i don't see any glaring issues, quite possibly you're CPU-limited here, upgrade to R5 3600(X) or R7 3700X. Also, what's your GPU PSU ?

here are all the stats.

also my 144hz 3rd monitor is connected through display port. used to use dvi for 144hz but rtx 2080S doesnt have that option.
also the gpu is

Do you have afterburner installed? GPU Power Limit % turned up past 100%? This will let your GPU pull more power and the clocks will go up and increase your FPS.

also just downloaded ryzen master (havent overclocked or anything) and i noticed EDC (cpu) was at 100% and red if that is important

As far as this

EDC - Electrical Design Current, maximum peak current the VRM can supply for short periods / transient conditions (100% is maximum)

it is a linked effort of the XFR profile when using the precision boost overdrive. this is a link to the VRM handling.

Do you have your windows power plan set to High Performance? If this stays at 100% during idle its because the power plan is not letting the cpu drop voltage and clocks.

i do not have afterburner. do you recommend? my windows power plan is high performance yes

I recommend afterburner since your GPU cooling is good setting the power limit higher will get you up in the 2000-2150Mhz core clock range.

I have a 2070 on water that never sees above 45c with 130% Power Limit and Core Clock +165Mhz and +1000Mhz on the Memory.

If you want to keep high performance you can edit the the processor power management minimum processors state to 0%. This will allow CPU to drop clocks and voltage when you don't have a manual OC applied, if you set manual voltage the voltage will not drop. It would be best to power savings to set an Offset instead so the cpu and drop the voltage and clocks if you specify a set multiplier.

You really shouldn't need Afterburner to get 100% GPU usage with a 2080 Super,  something else is wrong I would say.

The CPU also should definitely be good enough.

can it be because of the many cores? maybe far cry 4 and csgo just have terrible multicore performance. in witcher 3 im getting 90fps on ultra 1440p

I have a suspicion that you just have coinminer virus.

What's most CPU-heavy process running on your PC ? Open task manager. Look for any *miner* \ xmrig processes there.

highest is far cry 4 at 20%. i tried making far cry only use 6 cores and it increased the fps a little bit. and i tried csgo again putting everything on low and now i have 70 fps ._.

but as i said, witcher 3 runs butter smooth at 90fps on ultra 1440p. only having issues in older games. But ive seen other people with 2700x getting 300+ fps in csgo ?

That would be one hell of a selective miner though?

Dumb question is this one of these games with "DX12 support"?

Have you tried using DX11?

Otherwise maybe it's really something with too many cores.  ?

PS: Also worth trying : have you tried using only 1 monitor?

Multi monitor setup may cause issues, who knows.

disconnecting the other monitors got me to 200-250 fps in csgo up from 100-150. did nothing for far cry 4. HMMM this is strange. does the varying refresh rates on my monitors matter?

Well glad that's fixed then. Probably!

It's not really strange Windows is known to be buggy with multi monitor setups,  especially if they have different resolutions and refresh rates. As for why it maybe works with some setups while not with others,  nobody knows..

And idk about that other game,  it could be.  Just try with a non variable refresh rate monitor if you have the possibility.
