how to make 4k look decent on 1440p monitor?

so I know that 4k and 1080p don't scale well with 1440p bc the pixels don't divided into quadrants of 4, but i was wondering if there were any custom resolutions and i could run my operating system at or something that could make 4k content look better on my 1440p monitor. The reason i am asking is bc i recently got disney plus and have started watching the star wars movies again but i've noticed that at least the newer 4k ones look more blurry than i remember, obviously due to scaling issues. i would be fine if i had some black borders on the edges of my screen or stuff like that if it made the image look sharper.

It’s kind of up to the display scaler in your monitor. You can see if GPU scaling makes it look better by enabling it in the Nvidia control panel. (Nvidia control panel -> adjust desktop size and position -> performance scaling)

In games it doesnt really matter, as ur changing the rendering resolution. So if ur system can handle 4k just use 4k.

For windows desktop u dont really want to try to upscale, it doesnt work well, even 1080p to 2160p which is a multiple, doesnt looks great, i mean its better than trying to get a 1080p display to show 1440p on the desktop, but still isnt usable.

Josh, it would seem that the issue might be a bit tricky.

You are streaming disney+ and seeing that certain shows and movies will stream in 4k, but you aren't seeing them in 4k. Disney detects your resolution and gives you either 1080p or 4k. So if you're using a big beautiful curved 1440p like I do, we get a crappy looking big 1080p stretched mess.

Now the real question: how do we trick the disney website into providing us with beautiful 4k for our supersampled 1440p pleasure?
