Will duel channel be active if I get 4gb one stick. I only have 2 ram slots

Actually on some motherboards it will work. I don't know which off the top of my head but if you want to try it out just to see if it works then go for it

It will work in FLEX mode, it will try to run Dual channel up to 8gb (4+4) and once you use more memory than that it falls back to single channel... if it's Intel that is, AMD will straight defaul to single channel.

12GB is never advisable from a performance stand point:

So in other words I should just wait and get more money to buy one more 8gb stick

From the value perspective, yes.

You may spend more but you'll solve your issue while the other way around you'd only half solve it and still feel unsatisfied while still spending considerable money.

Wait until you can grab another 8GB stick and never worry again.

Hello,

So I have ddr4 memory. It's 8gb hyperx 2400mhz, and because I use integrated graphics i only have 6gb that is very low for gaming. Just wanted to ask if I can add 4gb so it will be 12gb of ram. Will it work?

Hi @Lelouch Lamperouge

You may need to match the RAM stick you have EXACTLY with the one you are buying. If you do not the clock speed (2400MHz) will default to the slowest RAM stick.

Alternatively, you could buy a cheap 4GB stick now, and flip the HyperX stick while the price is high. Then purchase a 16GB, matched pair in a different, more affordable brand.

hope this helps  ✌️
