Hi, everyone,

I'm in the process of ordering parts for a new build and have a question about RAM (and RAM performance). Yesterday, I ordered the following RAM on Amazon but I'm not sure this is the best choice for me and can always return it.

G.Skill Trident Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 – 142€ ($156)

The reason I bought it is because the timing is 16-16-16-36 and because it showed up in this B-Die Finder tool. I was originally going for the basic kit for half the price.

Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz - 73€ ($80)

To be fair, I don't know much about RAM performance so I learned most of what I know yesterday morning as I was scouting for deals. What should I do here? I'm happy to spend a bit more if it's worth it but also don't want to go too crazy. I want this PC to last a while so don't want to cut back too far if I'll regret it in a few years.

This G.Skill RAM – G.Skill Trident Z Neo 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory – is a bit cheaper than the one I ordered, has 16-19-19-39 timings, doesn't show up in that B-Die Finder tool, but has Ryzen written all over its page on the G.Skill website. I just don't know what to choose.

For context, it'll go with a 3700X, GigaByte X570 Aorus Elite, and 2080 Super. This is the narrowed-down list in PCPartsPicker.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks, and have a nice weekend!

I'm curious about this as well. I'm upgrading to the same motherboard and CPU that you are and I'm a bit paranoid with RAM compatibility based on past issues. I will say that there seems to be an issue with Gigabyte motherboards resetting ram speed to 2133 every reboot when using XMP, but several people on the Gigabyte forum say that uninstalling the Fusion RGB software fixes the issue.

I've been trying to stick to the QVL for finding new RAM, but that never gives you all options that will work.

Hey. For what it's worth, I also asked elsewhere and somebody told me that the RAM I ordered is completely fine. They suggested a slightly cheaper G.Skill kit but seeing as the price was almost the same, it seems like the one I ordered might be the way to go. I'll report back if I hear anything else. Please do the same as I'm keen to get all the parts ordered as soon as possible. ?
