So I just discovered something amazing about my CPU.

I salvaged my current CPU, the i5 3450 from a prebuilt alienware PC I received as a gift in 2012. As parts started to break I had to replace just about everything around it and that's how I've rolled ever since.
i5 3450 is a 4c,4t locked CPU with a 3.1 ghz base and 3.5 ghz boost clock.

 

Now however, I've discovered something kind of cool. Apparently there's software designed to give this specific CPU a limited overclock

The extra few MHz are a very welcome surprise and it made my day.

not related to software, locked LGA 1155 CPUs can all run 4x higher multiplier if used on motherboards that support overclocking CPUs.

I just think it's hilarious because I want this system to fatally break. I want it to die so bad so I have a legit reason/ excuse to upgrade. Because as long as I keep saving my money or investing in stocks my mind just won't let me spend any more.

 

I need it to die on its own.

But it wont.

Ivy bridge lives!

And now it just keeps getting better for me.

 

I'm at the point where I can either use this black friday to get a Ryzen 2600x platform upgrade for a total of 260 USD or just replace the ancient frankenstein collection of RAM in my current system for 40 bucks.

dont spend extra for the X, otherwise you might as well get the 3600. 2600X is just a higher factory speed 2600, latter is cheaper.

The x is less than 10 dollars more than the non x because of the holiday sale and it has the spire cooler which I wanted to give to my brother who has a 1700 with a stealth cooler provided in a prebuilt system.
