Hi Y'all,

Stumbled upon this place while searching for some answers, new here so sorry if it doesn't belong in this specific subgroup!

Looking into getting the Oculus Rift S to add to my collection of tech that I don't really need but want, and had a question about a work around for the DisplayPort requirement.  For my tower I won't have any issues but for my laptop I'm a bit stuck.  I travel a lot for work and thought having the Rift with me on long stretches in hotels would a nice add!

I have an Asus FX503, it's been a great companion on the road but the issue is it only comes with a HDMI port and three USB-A 3.0's.  I've read that some people have had success using a Dp to Thunderbolt 3 adapter, but alas my Asus does not have one.  Dp to HDMI adapters will not work because of the bandwidth (I believe?).  I've looked into trying to get a Thunderbolt 3 into the laptop but haven't had any luck, assuming a port replicator is out of the question?  I haven't found one for my specific model.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated, I'd prefer to not have to buy a new laptop.

Cheers!

Probably should have included this, but there are certain games that I play and would like to use VR for that aren’t supported on the quest. (No man’s Sky, Project Cars 2, ect.)  I did consider it though.

200$, 90hz, 1440x1600, OLED, anti-SDE. Better screen than on Vive Pro

My friend has both and let me try them out, didn’t like the way the O+ fit on my head.  He also mentioned tracking with the O+ sometimes got wonky and having to use a 3rd party program to run Steamvr was buggy for him at times.

It’s in beta right now, and some gpus aren’t supported.  Fb says they’ll be coming out with a custom USB 3.0 cable sometime next year and their recommended Anker Cable on the site is sold out on Amazon...go figure.
